This Herbal Secrets plant protein powder in chocolate is a very good value but it’s really hard to consume. It’s a very fine powder that is very chalky tasting. It’s so chalky tasting that you can barely taste the chocolate flavor through it. It mixes well but it still has a slightly grainy texture to it. The powder arrived very fresh with an expiration date out almost 2 years from receiving it.

First off, the serving size is LARGE. The scoop is really big (about 6 tablespoons). I have a small 24oz blender that I use to mix drinks and this takes up a lot of space which makes it difficult to add some of my other typical ingredients.
In terms of flavor this is pretty typical of pea protein. It’s a bit gritty/chalky. The chocolate does a decent job of helping the flavor. I personally would not mix this on its own.
It’s manufactured in an FDA facility so the consistency and quality “should” be good.

I cannot overstate how foul-tasting this protein powder is. For breakfast I like to have Greek yogurt with a scoop of protein powder in it. I use several different protein powders that are all pea protein based so I thought I’d give this one a try. I should have known by the smell and how over-powdery it was when I opened it that there would be a problem. But I mixed some into my Greek yogurt anyway and then tried it and… I literally almost vomited. It was that disgusting. I immediately spit the rest out— I couldn’t get it out of my mouth fast enough— and then tossed the remaining Greek yogurt mixture. I hate wasting food but there was no way I could choke down even one more bite. In fact, a little later I remade my breakfast using a brand of protein powder I love, and the sensory taste memory of the Herbal Secrets one was so strong, I couldn’t really enjoy my new breakfast. So gross.
This protein powder comes with a scoop that is double the size of other protein powder scoops so a serving is only one scoop while other brands tend to be two scoops per serving. The container it comes in is ENORMOUS. And yet when I opened it, it was literally only half full. I believe it was the full two lbs promised, I just think they use a container that is far bigger than necessary which is both wasteful and takes up way more space in your cabinet than need be.
In case it isn’t obvious up to this point, I would take a hard pass on this protein powder.

If you were to lick the used equipment in a chemical plant, it would taste better than this protein powder. It must be the combo of the stevia and monkfruit, because there are not a ton of chemicals listed in the ingredients. But whatever the case, this is really just inedible.

Like all plant-based proteins, this one is chalky and dry. Since the primary ingredient is yellow pea, it makes it a little harder to drink because it doesn’t taste very good. The calories-to-protein ratio is pretty good at 140 calories for 28g of protein. The ingredients are clear and concise.
The container wasn’t packaged properly; the seal underneath the lid wasn’t sealed correctly, which caused some of the protein powder to spill out.
Overall, the plant-based protein offers clean ingredients and a high amount of protein. The downside is that the protein tastes dry, and the yellow pea protein doesn’t taste very good.

We follow a primarily plant based eating style and are always looking for good ways to get extra protein. Pea protein has been a mainstay in the various protein powders that we’ve tried and use on a daily basis. This Herbal Secrets product incorporates pea protein with sugar free sweeteners and vanilla extract to create a taste I like. I add protein powder in my early morning beverage which includes coffee, cocoa, cinnamon, and a plant based milk. It’s a great way to start my day. I don’t used a full scoop for that drink, so I’m able to use some for other meals throughout the day. Today, it was added to my morning steel cut oatmeal with mixed berries and oat/almond milk. Tomorrow, who knows. It’s easy to use, tastes good, and has a great nutrition profile.

The Herbal Secrets Plant Protein Vanilla flavor tastes great. I use it in my coffee, oatmeal, yogurt, and smoothies, especially after workouts. It uses stevia and monk fruit as sweeteners, which I prefer.
The container is way too big for this two-pound protein powder, which I find silly.
Overall, this plant-based protein powder is a great choice, and I am happy with this product.
