I’ve been using MAV Nutrition’s children’s melatonin gummies as my melatonin of choice for a over a year now. It works quickly and consistently. Yes, the gummies are weirdly hard, but since the flavor is really nice, it didn’t bother me too much.
So when I saw the bottle had changed looks in my Subscribe & Save, I was concerned. But the picture assured me the formula was the same, and so I hoped it actually was (also, I was hoping that fresh gummies would be softer).
The bottle of the new formula arrived in my subscribe and save order today and I am not best pleased. I figured I should try the new formula early, while I still have some of the old variety left. I tried to open the bottle. I could not open the bottle with my hands, with a kitchen towel, with a dedicated bottle and jar opener tool, and sustained a cut on my face in the process. I had to pry the cap off with a butter knife. Opening child safety caps is literally part of my job and this one bested me (no, I don’t keep a decapper at home).
Cap finally removed, I tipped the bottle into my hand. Nothing comes out. The gummies are a lump. I live in the Northeast US. The weather’s mostly been in the mid-to-to high 50s this week (granted, we got up to 70 one day). If this is the degree of clumping that’s happening in the Northeast in April, I do not think it is appropriate for these to exist anywhere that gets any serious heat.
I managed to break 2 gummies free from the lump. The new formula is much softer, does not have the pleasant raspberry flavor of the old variety, and most importantly, it is 45 minutes since I took it and I am not the last bit sleepy (whereas I’d be pleasantly sleepy in 30-45 minutes with the old variety).
Prior to waiting for it to work, I had sought a refund from Amazon (because of course this item cannot be returned). I thought that this was a one-off fluke, that the dog food in the same box had damaged the cap and that was why I had so many problems opening the bottle. I went to this listing to order another bottle. And I stopped, and went to recent reviews, where I found another person who had the same problem I had, one day prior.
I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt and order a second bottle, but now I’m not. Bummer, as these worked really well before.
Also of note, “New Look, Same Formula!” is a lie. I still have the old bottle to compare ingredient lists.
Old formula’s other ingredients: glucose syrup (GMO-free maize), cane sugar, pineapple juice, gelatin, starch (GMO-free maize), citric acid, sodium citrate, natural flavors, pectin, fractionated coconut oil, carnauba wax, beeswax.
New formula’s other ingredients: tapioca syrup, sugar, pectin, natural flavor, citric acid, natural color.
Do better, Mav Nutrition, do better.

These gummies are excellent. I subscribe to them for my kids. They’ve changed the flavor a few times since we’ve been taking them, but we have liked them each time. Sometimes when they arrive, they are a bit melty or the outside of the gummies look like they were exposed to heat, but they’re still fine to eat.

We come from a family of night owls and have been giving my kiddo melatonin to help retrain her brain for six years. She recently decided the melatonin was too powerful and unnecessary so we switched to this and she loves it. It helps to calm her wiggling and bouncing and creative curious mind but it doesn’t knock her out.
We still do guided meditation to get the rest of the way to sleep but this gummy helps her to be able to meditate.

arrived melted and with the seal not completely adhered to the bottle. everything inside is wet. not eligible for return or replacement *through Amazon. I am questioning whether or not this is safe to use. why does this remain stocked if it arrives and is unusable? really disappointed with this purchase, as I was hoping to find a more affordable alternative to Natural Vitality’s Calm gummies. their product is consistent and effective so I guess I will continue using that instead.

So, I have always been against giving kids melatonin because of the research. However, my youngest daughter has DMDD and OCD (a recent diagnosis as of last year) and she has endured sleep issues since she was 2 (now 7). We’ve tried everything under the sun to help her including magnesium rubs and other natural non-melatonin remedies, sticking to the same bedtime routine, making sure it’s dark and she has no distractions, etc. She was even given a prescription by her psychiatrist that was supposed to help her sleep but did the opposite!!! Took forever to wean it out of her system, too. A friend of mine said her son struggled with the same issues at night where he too could not turn off his brain and go to sleep OR stay asleep which is what my daughter struggles with. My friend suggested giving the smallest dose of melatonin like these gummies so I finally caved and tried these and now she is falling asleep quickly and sleeping through the entire night.

I love these gummies for myself. Research indicates that the effective dose of melatonin for adults is wildly smaller than what’s typically for sale, so I sought these out and I’m so glad I did. They work for me when I’m struggling with insomnia, they taste great, and the gummies are really convenient for travel because I can eat one on a plane without needing water.
I fall asleep, I stay asleep, and I’m largely not groggy in the morning, which is a problem I have with larger doses.
The formulation has changed a couple times, but I think they’ve landed on a winner. Tasty, and the seal no longer sticks to the lid the first time you open it. Honestly, I would eat these like candy if there were no melatonin in it.

This product is great, I was using melatonin for my daughter because she always fights with me to go to sleep, but I did not want to keep giving her melatonin so I found this product and it works even better than the melatonin and it’s all natural. Great for even me, I pop two gummy’s and fall right asleep

My son loves these gummies! They really do work because whenever my son is having a meltdown he will ask me for them. Lately he will also ask me for them at bedtime and I think it helps him sleep which also seems to help him be calm the next day. He still will have meltdowns but they have cut the number of them down as well as the duration of the episodes. Also, he likes it that they look like bears and they are soft chewy and tasty and not hard to chew. Thank you for this product!
