Golden Spice by Archaic Apothecary arrived well-packaged and well-sealed. The product is exactly as shown and described, and is currently offered at a very good price. As soon as you open the package, you can smell the vibrant ingredients in the golden powder, especially the cinnamon and ginger. It’s obvious that the spices are very fresh. A note of caution if you are not used to these spices: the flavor is intense! It’s earthy, musky and perfumey.
This spice blend can be added to milk to make “golden milk,” a traditional Ayurvedic remedy, or it can be added to food and smoothies. In my fruit and greens smoothie, I didn’t need any added sweetener. This product doesn’t contain added sweeteners either.
I have used many of these ingredients together and separately for the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immune boosting and cognitive benefits. I do believe they help me. This is my first time trying this kind of blend and I have to admit I was nervous that the turmeric flavor would be too strong. Instead, I found that this really is balanced and that the cinnamon and ginger are at the forefront. The spiciness seems to come mostly from those two. If you don’t like those spices, then this will not be enjoyable for you.
I appreciate that many of the ingredients are organic and that it is made in small batches. The product photos don’t include the panel that shows the ingredients list, so I’ve included that there.

First of all, I really like the flavor of the Golden Spice powder. The spices are blended in good proportions. I feel like cinnamon is the most prominent. I get a small hint of ginger, but it’s not enough to be painful. I also like the ingredients and their potential health benefits which is what prompted me to order this in the first place. All that is great and for the taste and benefits, I would recommend this…
What I wish were different (and, given the nature of the ingredients, I’m not sure how different it could get) is that I wish the grind was finer. The first time I took this, it was in heated milk. While I really liked the flavor, I choked on it because the powder caught in my throat. It was mixed in with the milk, but it was just gritty enough to feel like something was caught in my throat. Future use with thicker foods (yogurt, my kefir which I culture until it’s almost the consistency of Greek yogurt, smoothies, etc.) went better. While it’s a fine grind, it’s still large enough to set off coughing unless it is in something that my body sees a bit more as a food than as a straight liquid. Since I am otherwise very happy with this product, I am not taking off a star because of this. I have just accepted that this works for me in some foods better than in others.

Archaic Apothecary is a small business outside of Seattle, Washington and their golden milk is now made with Pragati Turmeric, Peni Miris Cinnamon, & Makhir Ginger from Diaspora Co spices, a brand I am actually familiar with. Quirky little find on Amazon. I have been drinking pre-made golden milk powders for years but mainly from supplement brands like Gaia Herbs, not food-oriented companies. This has a lot more turmeric I’m thinking because the color is more vibrant in both the jar and mixed up in a mug. You definitely feel a little bit of a burn from the ginger, cinnamon, and turmeric in a good, warming way. The turkey tail isn’t in such a high amount that it flattens the flavor either. I love a rooibos tea but that note isn’t very apparent. Neither is the matcha because the lingering aftertaste beyond the spices is more vegetal than grassy. Vanilla powder is at the end of the ingredients list and barely detectable either, just contributes a little bit of natural sweetness which is nice to have something like this not be full of stevia or date sugar or something similar.
Drink it with milk for sure, it mellows out the brew.

This just arrived about 10 minutes ago. Milk is heating now so I can try this, I’m already anticipating an amazing drink just from what I see of this product from the packaging since it is so obvious that this was from a small caring business. It’s in a glass jar, The batch number and expiration date are handwritten, Maybe I’m in a sappy mood right now from watching holiday Hallmark movies but I feel like this was packed with love. I love shopping from small businesses and while there is a mushroom grower locally, there is nothing like this product so I felt it was something I wanted to try having heard for years about golden milk and this has the added health benefit of mushrooms.
I know for vine reviews we’re not really supposed to review the packaging but this packaging really elevates the expectations of the product because it shows attention to detail. I love how sustainable it all is. It inspired me to look up the company’s website. Im so impressed. They even offer a 30-minute consultation on mushrooms.
I’ve heard of golden milk being made of turmeric, cinnamon and ginger. But this goes so far beyond that with wild foraged in the USA turkey tail, Ashwagandha, Rooibos Matcha, pepper which makes the turmeric more effective, Himalayan Pink Salt and Vanilla Bean Powder. Their website even specifies the type of turmeric, ginger and cinnamon plus the company it’s sourced from. So with that level of detail, I have no concern about the quality of this product. There have been other products I’ve ordered mostly supplements, that I didn’t want to try because packaging wasn’t secure and minimal information was given.
Obviously I rambled long enough that the milk was warm so I could finally try this. First I have to say how impressed I was with how easily it blended in. I’ve had matches and other powders that even with a frother to mix it still had pieces that didn’t dissolve to blend in. This was completely dissolved and blended with 2-3 swirls of the teaspoon. It has a rich flavor, definitely taste the cinnamon, turmeric and ginger. I might even taste the pepper. I can’t say I immediately love this since like many health drinks, it takes a bit to get accustomed to the different flavors from the normal hot chocolate, coffee or tea most of us grew up on, but it still is tasty and not at all unpleasant. I can foresee me making this a habit because it is tasty and amazing health benefits. It just takes a little bit of tastebud adjustment which shouldn’t take me too long since I do love curries so the turmeric will be easier to get accustomed to. I just am trying to take in the cinnamon with it instead of vegetables like in the curries I would eat. By about the 10th sip, I started enjoying it. It is still making me crave rice and vegetables in a curry sauce but eventually I will adapt especially if I drink this in the mornings rather than evenings. I am really craving some veggies now but I can’t say that’s bad since they’re also healthy. I’m glad I mixed this with almond milk instead of coconut or I would be getting up right now to start cooking some rice and vegetable curry. Meanwhile, I could picture this being a popular drink at healthy restaurants like those I would visit while in LA. Not many of those around where I live now but since I can order this product and others by this company from Amazon, I can enjoy healthy beverages at home. Since I’m not much of a coffee drinker, I will try their chug latte before the cafe de mojo though the decaf roasted Maya nut coffee alternative sounds interesting. It’s not often I find a product that entices me to try other flavors by the same company but this one does. If you care about your health, like warm spiced beverages although it might also be nice cold in summers, I recommend this, Plus it’s plant-based suitable for vegans and gluten free. Okay, now I need to go make another cup to add to my current one that cooled off while I sipped too slowly while writing this review. Try it for yourself because I need to get back to enjoying mine.
