This stuff is purple. Gentian violet use has been curtailed in many countries, including Canada and Australia. I suffer regularly from oral thrush. Medical websites says gentian violet should not be taken orally. The label on this product says “for external use only”. It also says this is an oral cleanser. These are contradictory statements. Since reading the label, I have decided not to use this product as an oral cleanser. I did try some on my skin and it did stain my skin purple.

I use it for minor cuts only and not on some serious wounds. I don’t like using it on mouth or some serious wounds for some serious health risks. I recomment do a research first. Other than that, this works well.

So glad I found this as it is harder to find these days. I use it on some stubborn dog ear problems and it works great. Does not burn or irritate like so many alcohol based solutions and really does work! It WILL dye fur so be sure you know what you are doing first and if the dog shakes their head it may spray walls, clothing, everything and there is no chance you will be washing it off!

Gentian violet is known for many uses!! Growing up my grandmother would always use this!! It is safe for little kids to use! When my kids have any sort of oral blisters or even sore throat, it is a natural disinfectant. It does stain, and it will stain clothing and your hands if it gets on contact. highly recommended antibacterial solution just to have at home and in your first aid kit!!

Good product for drying wet areas for wound care. Habitual use does dry the area; need to be aware the skin will be colored violet in the area used, no harm though.

This is a nice product and I like that it is alcohol free. I use it for cleaning dogs ears that have problem ear infections. I like the dropper so I can squeeze a couple drops on a cotton ball to clean the ears. This way I don’t have to touch it and stain my fingers. Be very careful, it will stain your fingers, cloths, dogs hair purple. It’s a very useful solution to have around for little cuts and scrapes as well. Just remember, it will stain whatever you put/get it on.
