This stuff works and the mint flavor is tolerable, but I found another product with a caramel taste that is much more pleasant. But, I do like the Gaviscon chewable tablets for carrying in my purse. They do gum up my teeth for a short time, but they work. This project comes in a super heavy bottle and isn’t really very portable.

I have been using this product for the past 2-3 years. The sodium alginate is the “magic” addition compared to other antacides. The reason for 1-star is that there was something VERY wrong with the contents of this bottle: “BN AEW081 Exp 1SEP2025” and #3193197 at the bottom of the white label. The contents were a “separated lumpy gel” — not the usual ‘rather viscous liquid’. I poured the contents into my Vitamix blender to see if it would liquify somewhat — and it did not. It is incredibly thick. I have no idea what happened in shipping from Europe (?). I have saved the bottle & contents in the even someone from the manufacturer happens up this review. I will also write the manufacturer. The first instruction in dark printing is, “Do not refrigerate” and I am wondering if in shipping or warehouse storage this particular bottle was frozen. To reiterate: I have relied on this product for 2-3 years and have highly recommended it to others. My gastroenterologist also has recommended it.

I have LPR and a hiatal hernia, plus esophagitis and a few other digestive problems. This tastes absolutely disgusting and I can barely get it down, but it works. And it’s the only thing that has worked this well for me.
I chug some before bed every night and no longer wake up gasping for air or coughing. My ears have stopped burning most of the time too. I can even eat tomatoes again.
This is the UK formula, and trust me, it’s the one you want. Don’t mess with the US version. It’s not as good.

As far as heartburn relief and acid reflux prevention this product is amazing and works quickly. There were 2 flavors to choose from aniseed and peppermint. I don’t like aniseed flavoring in anything so I chose to get peppermint. I actually like the taste. Doesn’t taste Like your favorite peppermint bubblegum, but it’s not bad by any means. The texture is something to get used to. It took me 2 or three times taking it before it didn’t even bother me anymore. The texture is smooth, and very thick/slimey feeling sort of like a thick aloe drink feeling when swallowing it. Not terrible though by any means.

My doctor suggested I try to get hold of this version of Gaviscon when the other GERD and heartburbn treatments created problems with my digestive system and did not resolve my GERD issues. After a month of using this Gaviscon, my GERD problems were resolved and I didn’t experience any digestive issues or gastro-intestinal discomfort. After years of nothing else helping with GERD and many unwanted side effects, this product took care of the problem within a month with no side effects. I am grateful they know how to make effective medicines in the UK; just wonder why they can’t seem to make them in this country.

I use the product for LPR, which is a form of Acid Reflux that bypasses the usual gastro/esophageal complications and flows quickly up into the Larynx/throat. The main damaging agent in this form of Reflux is Pepsin, a digestive enzyme that lies dormant in the Larynx and throat after a Reflux episode until it is activated by coming into contact with acidic food and drinks that are consumed. Pepsin can likewise be deactivated by reducing the PH, which can be done by avoiding acidic consumables or drinking alkaline water. It’s important to neutralize Pepsin because the Larynx does not have natural defenses against damage caused by it. There is limited medical research that suggests this exposure to Pepsin over the long term can lead to Laryngeal cancer, though the jury is still out due to the lack of convincing studies that consider the alcohol and tobacco usage of participants in those studies. This product is said to not only neutralize the Pepsin in the Larynx and throat, but also form a “raft” in the esophagus when taken after meals, which prevents the Reflux event from ever reaching your Larynx in the first place. It is also claimed that the Reflux (containing Pepsin) that does make it up to the Larynx is deactivated and thus, it is harmless. At face value, this sounds like a miraculous solution for a condition that has few to no targeted treatments that work. The issue is that when I take it, I can sense a reduction in symptoms, but it’s not a silver bullet. I have to have faith, much like a child has to have faith in Santa, that the Refluxate that I still feel reaching my Larynx is deactivated and not doing any damage. I don’t have any other choice but to believe it, so it is what it is. The product is gross, but if it works, who cares? I’ll keep buying it until a silver bullet is produced.
