I am giving it a 5 star right now, but I am not sure right now. I have a friend who has lost 30 lbs using it so far. I have been taking it for a month and I think I have lost some internal fat but not body weight. (I am talking about additional weight. I previously lost 60 lbs in a year and have been maintaining the weight loss but have hit a plateau. So, I thought I would try this.) It is a natural product. I would not use those other diet pills.)
This product claims to naturally increase your metabolic rate, burn fat, provide antioxidant cellular protection, and help make diet and exercise more effective. It claims to be a non-stimulant and natural fat burner, helping to break down visceral fat, including belly fat. It claims to be made from cultivated strains of edible brown marine vegetables (edible seaweed?) and includes beneficial marine carotenoids and omega-3 essential fatty acids. Take 1, 3 times a day. Can gradually increase to 3, 3 times a day.
1st of all, I have been taking it for about a month. I take 1 tablet with each of 3 meals. Although I think it is breaking down internal body fat, I cannot be sure. I can tell you that there are no jitters and I would be sensitive to that. It is not cheap, but what is? If it does what I think it’s doing, it is worth the money. I think it will likely work better with daily exercise, which I intend to get back to in exactly 2 days. I have tried all kinds of magic bullets in the past and there seems to be no way to lose weight healthfully without the appropriate diet and exercise (especially exercise). I have known several people who have done the surgeries and although it is an alternative, I think you are better off doing the reasonable portion diet and exercise way. Anyway, I think this product can probably help when combined with reasonable eating and exercise. So, get up and start moving. Do whatever you can do and work yourself up to 30 minutes of movement each day, whether you try this product or not.
(Note–There is no way to comment about the product without giving it a star rating. It would be unfair to the product to give it a low rating, so I gave it a 5 star with an explanation so I could provide you with comments on the product. It did work for my friend but I am not sure if it is working for me yet.)
Update May 2009–no weight loss yet, but the fat that has been with me forever appears to be slowly leaving. My face is thinner and friends have noticed it even more than I have. (Remember, my metabolism is very slow.) Friends are losing weight with this product very slowly.

I’ve used Fucothin when it originally came out from Garden Of Life. Back around 2008 it was very costly but it seemed to help me with my weight and health. I just tried it again back in July/August while I started a diet to lose 10 lbs, lowering my carbs and gluten, and increasing my protein. Somehow it does seem to reduce my hunger and keeps me from snacking. The weight started to come off at about a pound a week. I ran out in September and I gained a little weight back. So I just bought another value size bottle and put it on auto shipping. It makes my dieting easier and more consistent.
I have also recently read up on the heart and circulatory benefits of Fucoxanthin so I plan to continually use it after the diet at a maintenance level. There are so many health benefits from fucoxanthin that it would be too many to list. I consider this an exotic supplement here because it’s not in our diet on the western hemisphere but it’s in the eastern diet with the consumption of seaweed going back thousands of years.

I can’t use this during the day. it is very effective, too effective, it burns calories and makes me overeat because I feel ravenous, so I end up gaining weight. For me, the most effective use of this product is to take it right before bed. There is no stimulant so it does not keep me up, but I wake up the next morning feeling like I burned some calories off overnight. I panic if I run out after I eat too much for dinner! It is very effective if used correctly.

I’ve always been a highly active individual, as I feel the need to be physically productive. My job is highly physical too. However, in my mid 30s, there was a period of time where I crapped the bed in terms of taking care of myself, mainly eating really badly. Before that, and now, in my early 40s, I engaged in what I consider to be proper eating habits. Not dieting. I don’t believe in the sustainability of ‘diets’. I do believe in lifestyle changes, and creating long-term habits. There really are no truly healthy ‘diets’ or shortcuts to having the physical appearance one wants or the physical health one wants. Slow and steady wins the race, in my experience and education. Again, there are no shortcuts to taking care of the body. Now, after my mid-30s, it took a really long time to return to better health and weight loss. But there was some aspect of it that just wouldn’t return, it was like my body just wouldn’t let go of some of that gained weight. I still ate well, still worked out, had the active job. As for eating well, I stick to lots of vegetables, protein, and VERY occasionally, complex carbs like brown rice. I avoid sugar of all kinds because it makes me very sick and makes me feel almost comatose, even though I am not even pre-diabetic. Even with all this, and a couple of years of diligent attention to well-being, I still needed some kind of extra help. I tried this product; like some other customers, I avoid any kind of non-natural pill approached. I tried some of that stuff when I was much younger and it nearly killed me. This stuff is basically brown algae extract of fucoxanthin. When I first started taking this, there wasn’t much info on it. However, I have been using Garden of Life supplements for many years, and since I have not had any problems, I was not too worried about trying this. Now you can find info about fucoxanthin just about everywhere, including a number of articles from the NIH, a government-driven organization. I suggest checking it out.
I took this product for nearly a year. Yes it is expensive. For me, the results were well worth the expense. I also worked out as usual, worked my active job, and ate what I consider to be healthy choices. I lost 30lbs over the course of a year. I likely would have lost more had I stayed on it, but I liked the weight I was at–a weight I had not been since graduating (real) bootcamp. I kept the weight off for about 3 years by just continuing my habits.
It does indeed take time. I started noticing results in about 1 month. Most (but not all) of the people on this review board that have issues with this product clearly state that they were taking much much more than they should have been; some lady was taking 9 a day?! NO MA’AM. You wouldn’t disregard pharmaceutical instructions by increasing usage by 600% would you? I mean unless there is an addiction issue. So then don’t do that with this. When a company like Garden of Life says start with one and after a while, build up the three, FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. Like many homeopathic or natural medicines, the efficacy of it relies on a buildup of concentration in the body which does indeed take time. But once a therapeutic range is achieved, the effect is consistent and tends to work as described. Perhaps for some people this will not work. But I imagine for many people, including myself who had extra weight that would not come off no matter what, without a bit of extra help, this will work when the regimen is followed as indicated. It may take some people longer to see results. Probably at least 30 days. But after that, the weight loss is consistent and pretty great. It may not work if, say, a person continues to eat very poorly or consume junk food and sit on the couch all day–I think the results would be pretty minimal.
So–if using this, expect a few weeks before results. Take as instructed; do not take 9 pills a day. Try to eat well along side taking this, and try to stay active. Even many 80 year old women and men can AND DO take walks. Even people who are paralyzed play basketball and many other sports. Be thankful for what you have and use it while you have it.
I would use this again, most definitely. Cheers. Be well.
