I’ve been looking for a good iron supplement for a long time. I’ve tried many. I’ve had iron infusions due to low iron for way too long and so I have to have something that works and this is the one for me. No stomach upsets and the capsules are really small. One per day is all that’s needed for me to keep my iron levels where they need to be.

Up until a couple years ago, I had been using Twinlabs Daily One Caps with Iron, a multivitamin still my favorite which provides 10mg of iron as carbonyl iron. Prior to this multivitamin, I had been using the same product without iron, and decided to try an iron supplement due to lack of energy from not being a meat eater (and also being a daily consumer of aspirin). Unfortunately, after using this product several years, it became no longer available and I needed to find a substitute. Eventually, I settled on Garden of Life mykind Organics Men’s Once Daily Whole Food Multivitamin. However, because this Garden of Life product is targeted for men, it doesn’t provide iron, so I needed to find a separate iron supplement, eventually settling on Thorne Research Iron Bisglycinate which provides 25mg of iron. In recent months, I’ve been experimenting with different iron supplements from various manufacturers. While the first alternative I tried was Proferrin, which I liked, this one from Future Kind provides a dosage of 18mg. The iron in this Future Kind product is referred to in the supplement facts on the product label as “bis-glycinate chelate”, and after researching whether this is any different than the form provided by Thorne Research, I’m seeing that chelated iron is known by many other names, including the names indicated by both these products. Other than the quantity of iron provided in capsules of each product, perhaps the main differentiator is that each capsule of Future Kind also includes 50mg of vitamin C, which is apparently for “increased absorption”. However, because I already consume iron in the morning alongside a minimum of 2000mg of vitamin C, the added vitamin C provided by Future Kind provides little to no benefit. Additionally, each capsule of Future Kind comes at a cost of about $0.67, about 3x that of Thorne Research, so I can’t justify future purchases of Future Kind. All of this said, keep in mind that iron overload is a common problem that you’ll want to avoid, because if left untreated it can contribute to cancer, heart disease, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases and many other health problems. According to research, an ideal level of serum ferritin for adult men and non-menstruating women is somewhere between 30 and 60 ng/mL, so make sure you are regularly tested.

I’m vegan and I wanted to find an iron supplement that was not animal derived — I thought it would be easy but it actually isn’t and most iron supplements do contain some animal derived contents.
I asked where the source for the iron in the Future Kind supplements comes from and this was a response from the seller:
We use a chelated form of iron called ferrous bisglycinate. It’s a non-GMO form of iron which has been shown to be more effectively absorbed than other types and to be gentler on the stomach. It’s produced by taking iron from the soil and combining it with plant-derived protein matter, glycine.
They really are vegan!
I just just received the supplements and I’m happy with the environmentally respectful packaging and and the capsules in the bottle which are small enough to be easily swallowed. I feel like the sellers, who are brothers and certified plant nutritionists, seem to really have healthy and kind motivations for their products and their company. The company even donates a portion of their profits towards animal rescue and rehabilitation groups.
I’m trying my first supplement today, so far all good.

These are perfect small and easy to swallow due to the coating it goes down smooth. This has helped my ferritin and iron levels improve 2 months in already back to normal. Not as cold all the time now.
