This one took longer to actually be effective…typically the purple stuff from that name brand that rhymes with Bee-Pill takes around 45 minutes to actually be very effective for me – and so at the 120 minute mark, I was convinced that it wasn’t working – Until I woke up the next morning realizing that not only had it actually done its job, but I never even stirred to go to the bathroom.
My bladder was filled to the brim, but this stuff let me sleep completely through the night as if the sandman didn’t just sprinkle me with dust, but full on buried me in it and then stomped on top of the dust pile to make sure I was good and truly out for the night.
Tastes different than the name brand stuff…not better and not necessarily unpleasant, but its definitely not something I’d choose next to soda, purple stuff and Sunny-D in the fridge! Kind of like if someone squeezed a grapefruit and a strawberry over the top of some corn syrup!
Nice product…ingredients are a mix of things I can pronounce and others I don’t want to try – but they seem to compare to some other similar brands, from what I am seeing online.

In the past six months I have trying to fall asleep without prescriptions or manmade chemical compounds; therefore, I’m experimenting with a variety of natural products. While I’ve tried to get away from melatonin, it’s one of the only effective sleep aids for me at 10+ mg/night. Because Somnapure has only 3mg of melatonin, I didn’t think it’d be effective. At the same time there are a lot of organic ingredients that made me curious about how well they might work. To be safe, I waited until I had some time off from work to test out this sleep-aid.
Somnapure works fast for me! I knew that if it was effective I’d fall asleep much faster than usual because liquids will absorb quicker than pills. I’ve now used it four times and, according to my smartwatch, I’ve been able to get just over 90 minutes of REM sleep and deep sleep as well! (I rarely get more than 30 minutes of either, if that!) Even when I’ve only been able to squeeze in four hours of sleep, three of those hours have been of high-quality when I’ve taken Somnapure.
The clear cap on top of the lid has measurement lines to help pour the directed 10ml (2 teaspoons). Even though it says to take 30-60 minutes prior to bedtime, I’ve been falling asleep within 20 minutes. And when I wake up, I’m surprised that I’ve slept and the time has passed. Unfortunately, I DO have a difficult time extracting myself from bed. I feel fuzzy and sluggish. Three out of the four times I’ve returned to bed (as it isn’t a work day) and I’ve slept through a lot of chaos. Last night I took half a dose and it was easier to get out of bed this morning, so perhaps I don’t need as much for it to be effective; it’ll be easy to adapt my dosages because it’s a liquid.
Taste-wise, I worried it’d be like cough medicine (especially with a name like “dream berry,”) but it’s such a small amount that I don’t notice an identifiable flavor. It’s not delicious, but it’s not bad. (I do drink a small amount of water afterward.)
There are about 24 servings (at 10ml each) in the 9 ounce bottle, and each serving is 20 calories with 6g of carbohydrates. The “calm / relaxation blend” is 205mg of a combination of L-Theanine, Valerian Extract (root), Lemon Balm Extract (aerial parts), Chamomile Extract (flower), Hops Extract (aerial parts), and Passion Flower Extract (aerial parts). In addition, there are 3g of melatonin. Other ingredients include purified water, glycerin, sorbitol, natural flavor, natural citrus extract, citric acid, and Sucralose.
A precautionary statement on the bottle says that it’s for adults only and to not exceed more than 10ml in a 24-hour period. ALLERGENS: Manufactured by equipment which may process products containing milk, eggs, soy, wheat, shellfish, fish, tree nuts, peanuts, and sesame.

I’ve been a third-shift worker in ICUs for about half my career. Even before that, I was both a night owl and a morning person. So, my circadian rhythm is nigh non-extant. Additionally, I am a very light sleeper. And, on top of all this, it’s the 21st century and light pollution and urban noise and phones in bed are all things. So, I sleep with a sleep mask, often ear plugs, and have a variety of sleep aids. Historically, diphenhydramine and melatonin are good IF I have at least six to eight hours, otherwise I will feel like groggy, blurry, fuzzy crap for hours after waking. Valerian is my usual go-to, but it takes a WHILE to kick in and if you don’t wind down while it is trying to take effect, I can miss the boat.
This little bottle is running on two of those three, and then some ingredient derived from tea (which I have used but it’s like, a whole thing to brew tea). Never knowing how fast it will work, if it will work, and how much after effects I will feel, I tried this out on a weekend without any scheduled activities. Following the dose guidelines and using the included measuring cup, we were off. First, I have to comment on the taste. While the smell is pretty neutral, the taste is not “dream berry” to me, if I had to label it, I would go with “mango valerian cough syrup.” Which isn’t awful, but I know some people hate the smell of valerian and this tastes like that smell a bit. It’s thick and clingy like a cough syrup, have water on hand. However, it does kick in fast, faster than any pill form melatonin, valerian, or diphenhydramine I use. It gives you some warning, and I think you could fight it if you wanted to enough, but it’s a nice slide into sleep.
For better or worse (better in my opinion), it doesn’t really increase sleep depth, I was still able to be woken, and barring that event occurring less than two hours after falling asleep, I had no grogginess or blurriness. This is the MAJOR upside for me, because I don’t always have 6+ hours to sleep OR I am reaching for a sleep aid because I am up too late and NEED to get some sleep in the limited window I have. So, for me, that’s a feature more than a drawback.
TL;DR – A sleep aid that will push you gently into sleep but not keep you out or leave you feeling hungover even for a shorter sleep/nap.
