This supplement contains mainly genistein and daidzein, along with a moderate amount of some related soy phytoestrogens (in general for soy extracts these are usually chemicals closely related to daidzein).
It also adds a small-moderate amount of some fermented soy, most likely for the nattokinase content (some research suggests possible cardiovascular applications).
Genistein is a rather highly selective ligand of the estrogen beta receptor (about 40:1 against alpha) and is somewhat orally bioavailable, though it is lipophilic enough to (in my view) probably justify co-administration with e.g. lecithin, fish oil, oily meals, etc. (note absolutely none of this should be viewed as advice of a formal nature in a medical sense per se; it is simply my opinion from the literature).
Daidzein is less selective for estrogen beta (relative to estrogen alpha) but still favors beta about 4:1. It also may prevent certain theoretical problems with genistein alone (opinions vary; subject is related to genetic effects that may not even occur at relevant concentrations; personally I always try to be cautious so I follow the implications and take both together).
In general, an enormous amount of research easily accessible on the main government-maintained index of biomedical articles strongly suggests usefulness for post-menopausal women, just look it up for yourself.
More about my experiences, anyway: this stuff is incredible for skin quality. It basically gives me the same kind of skin as a girl, especially on my face– smoother, paler, thicker and more velvety, slight difference in eye shape, less tendency to wrinkle in some expressions, slightly smaller mouth due to cheek changes. It also completely suppresses breakouts for me, down to absolutely zero. It’s like being a model; it’s incredible.
Apart from that, it seems to have improved my social skills and helped me understand other people better. Meanwhile it seems not to have had any adverse changes on visual-spatial skills (papers suggest that might be more related to estrogen alpha). It’s also somewhat anxiolytic. And supposedly according to some articles it might even help boost BDNF and aid the hippocampus for some types of memory, but this is hard to assess personally so I cannot directly comment on this last couple of points.
Contrary to common claims about “soy face,” these soy phytoestrogens did not make my face look worse. Rather, they made it look vastly, incredibly better.
Unfortunately the effects start to wear off within only about 8 hours. I use 2 capsules in the morning, 1 midday, and 2 at night. I wish the half life of soy phytoestrogens were longer, but I cannot change this, so I just try to deal with it for now.
Males should be cautious about risk for gynecomastia and recognize the signs. If it starts to happen then it may be best to scale down the dose or take other interventions depending on your desired results. Again this is not medical formal guidance so anyone should do their own research and make their own decisions. Personally I have countermeasures for this that are effective.
Effects might be getting a little less strong after a month or two of use, but I will keep paying attention. To be honest, I am probably just getting used to looking this good. I shouldn’t take it for granted.
I wish I knew about this years ago. My mother should benefit too, due to age.

My dad is fighting prostate cancer and hates soy milk. He takes these in quantity instead and they are doing the job. This is not intended as medical advise ….. do your own research but I follow TCM.

I’m 50 years old. I’ve been using this supplement (1 pill/day) for about 3 months, and I’m pleased with it. I know it’s not advertised to help weight loss, but I’ve lost about 5 lbs without changing my diet. I feel more energetic and healthier. I used to have a lot of aches and pains in my back and legs, but this is the first winter season that I don’t feel that pain. It’s not 100% gone, but so much better. Honestly, I was skeptical at first about this product, but I’m a believer now. I hope they continue to sell this particular strength of soy extract for a long time to come 🙂

I bought this to keep my estrogen up as I get older. They’re in capsules so they’re tasteless. Keep in mind, the serving size is FIVE a day.

I liked the old formula, and I like the new formula even more (Life Extension eliminated SoyNatto as an ingredient.) I have mold/yeast allergies, and SoyNatto is a yeast-fermented ingredient, so I don’t miss it or the way it aggravated my eczema. It’s not all good news, however, as the price has almost doubled. A bottle of the previous Ultra Soy Extract was $50.99 for150 capsules (34-cents per capsule) whereas the new Ultra Soy Extract costs $37.50 for 60 capsules (63-cents per capsule.) I would have thought that the price would have been lowered without the SoyNatto, but I guess the price increase is due to inflation Despite the new price, I intend to continue using this product as long as Life Extension keeps the new simplified formula: for people with allergies, the fewer ingredients, the better.

The safety cap not secured on the bottle when I received the item and the shrink wrap was dislodged so I don’t trust that the product inside was safe. Also the bottle was labeled as pyridoxal B6 caps when I ordered soy capsules and there was another label slapped over the bottle saying that there were soy capsules inside, so I’m really not sure that I trust what’s inside. Again there was no return available on this product. I didn’t notice the no return when I purchased it. I feel it’s shady to reuse bottles.
