I tired this conditioner a few times, and I wish I could love it, but I don’t. I didn’t feel it moisturized my hair at all. The only thing I did like about it was it was plastic free, but I couldn’t get behind the fact my hair was such a tangled mess after using it

I have been using their Guardian solid conditioner bar for a while and love it, but it does tend to break up into unusable little pieces once you get a little over halfway done with the bar. At $16 a bar that hurts my wallet! I figured this would be a less wasteful alternative, and it was cheaper.
It does make my hair amazingly soft! The results are top notch. It also smells lovely, like fresh orange with a hint of lime. Results wise it’s one of the best conditioners I have ever used.
The downside is that it takes FOREVER to melt the solid chunks, even with boiling hot water. You have to stir and stir and stir for like 20 minutes straight. It’s also too thick to really pour into a typical conditioner container, so I ended up putting mine into a screw top container and scoop it out. If it was easier to mix up I would give this item 5 stars. Maybe if it were a powder or smaller pieces? Either way a faster mixing process would make this item perfection.

I have extremely fine hair and I’ve realized that rubbing the ethique conditoner bars directly on my hair was just too rough on it. I purchased the concentrate, hoping that the liquid will be a more gentle plastic free option. I was worried when I first tried to mix it, as it didn’t seem to be melting, and setting but don’t be discouraged! It did melt down eventually and once it did completely set, it was conditioner consistency. It felt fantastic on my hair. I’ve only used this once so far, but it didn’t appear to leave my hair greasy or heavy – just wonderfully conditioned. Thank you so much for making this product! I hope you’ll have the newer powdered version available for the U.S. soon!

I mostly use the ethique conditioner bar, i have fine thin hair so it works well. I do like to have a liquid one on hand for those quick shower days or when my sister is in town. Her hair is thicker and the bar isnt enough. Moisturizes quite well. Much better option for thicker hair, for when the bar isnt enough. Hopefully she approves of this as i have. A little goes a long way. I actually like the subtle citrus smell, im very picky on scents. As far as value, im not sure. For me who wouldn’t use it as much its great but for my sister maybe not so much. Tho environmental standpoint yeah the value is good.
I was sceptical while making it but eventually the product does set up and thicken. Very easy to make and i already had a bottle so better for the environment. I do wish Amazon would stop sending them in plastic bubble mailers but i guess if i wanted to do better on that i should’ve just bought straight thru the company site.

Cosmetic Chemist Rant: Lather =/= clean or good. Surfactants that are easier on the skin are notorious for low foam/lather. So that person claiming it’s not good because of the lather doesn’t know what they are talking about (and may not have made it right because I had no problem). So [basic person], if you want good lather use soap, as in heavy duty surfactants stripping every molecule of oil from your skin and has the same pH as bleach. /end rant.
I was SOOOOOOOOO excited to try this.
Following the directions I massed out ~300g water and broke up the bar. I nuked it in 30 sec intervals, lightly agitating and mashing up the bar as I went. After about 2-3 min it began to bubble and foam, which is where you stop heating (unless you want a foam party in your microwave, no judgment from me). Then I became impatient waiting for it all to melt/ assimilate, so I broke out the homogenizer (immersion blender, NOT WISK. WISK= air = foam = mess), moved to a bigger container, and briefly pulsed 2-3x. If you decided to do this do not remove the attachment from the solution while pulsing, you want to minimize the air incorporation. Turned out perfect.
Safety notes: peppermint oil and other essential oil when heated will give off fumes, so keep the container away from your face and eyes until it cools. Also, hot glass looks like cold glass.
Just to verify, I tested the pH and it’s too high. I’m not sure what they meant by ‘balanced pH’ but I expect it to be within 0.5 of whatever part it’s applied to. I know a low pH cleanser (which is around where it should be) is a lot easier said than done, but claiming it’s ‘balanced’ is my issue. It has great sensory feel, but the smell is indicative that the peppermint may be too much; and my mildly irritated scalp confirms it’s too much for sensitive skin.
I will be using this infrequently, but I will use *all* of it. I’m really excited to see what the next iteration of this product brings, but I will not be buying this current formula again (definitely buying/ trying all the other products though)

I have been using this Balancing Conditioner on my hair for more than a year now. I like the way my hair responds to this conditioner and I am still reusing the same bottle that I started with. So a good product and no plastic – a win/win.

No more plastic lotion bottles for me. Light scent, perfect for men or women, can mix as heavy or dilute as I like and add my own extra essential oil scents as I please. A great, basic lotion without the polluting plastic waste. Will definitely order again.
