This pill cutter has a much more solid feel than the less expensive plastic ones. The blade is sharp and once you get the pill in place, cutting it is a breeze. The difficulty is you have to eyeball the placement and that sometimes results in placing the pill a little off-center. Maybe with practice it will get easier.

There are two mechanisms for pill splitters: the guillotine, which has a single blade that you press against a flat surface, and the vice, which has two blades that you press against each other. The vice mechanism is far superior. The guillotine mechanism is the default in cheap, plastic pill splitters. It causes small tablets to fragment and leaves a lot of powder residue from tablets that tend to crumble. The vice mechanism, on the other hand, creates clean, precise cuts, so that when you put the two parts of a tablet that was split in half together, you often can’t tell that the tablet had been cut at all. There are no fragments that fall off when a tablet is split, but, on rare occasions, there can be an extremely small amount of powdery residue.
The Equadose Pill Splitter is the best-in-class pill splitter. It’s the only one that I’d even think about using on small tablets. It’s sturdily made and very satisfying to use. It’s a buy-it-for-life item, which makes it worth the money many times over. Please don’t waste money on plastic pill splitters. If you need to cut small (or large) pills in half, the Equadose Pill Splitter is by far the best solution.
Other customers have written about having difficulty aligning a pill for an equal split. If you have a tablet with an indentation in the middle to help you to see where to split it, you just need to align that indentation with one of the blades, which is easy. The important part is to make sure that the tablet’s edges are vertically aligned. That is, when the tablet is within the blades, you don’t want the tablet to be tilted, but perfectly straight horizontally. I think that this is what customers struggle with, but it’s not terribly difficult. It just takes some practice to develop the right technique and gain confidence, at which point you can split pills quickly, without frustration.
I wish that someone would create a video that compares splitting the same type of small, round pill using both a guillotine and vice splitter. There is a night-and-day difference. I would never buy a plastic pill splitter again. If you need to split pills, the Equadose Pill Splitter is the best pill splitter on the market. I daresay that it’s even fun to use.

Liked: well made of durable precision metal (aluminum or titanium); It produced precise sharp clean cuts every time (no crushing or crumble flakes; it’s small & easily storable.
Neutral to Disliked: I have excellent hand-dexterity but for those with large fingers or dexterity limitations this pill-cutter would be difficult to use particularly for small pills, due to the need to exactly position the pill between the cutting anvils where the round cavities are a bit small in their depth & circular area. My fingers are men’s large, no limitations & excel dexterity … and this cutter worked well … but for some with Arthritis it could be very difficult, also this cutter does not have a “pill centering” device and relies upon the person’s eye-hand judgement skill to make equal portion cuts.

It is expensive.. But it works exceptionally well. Splits tablets cleanly every time. Its a bit fiddly to get the tablet in place so may not suit some people.

This pill splitter is amazing! Pills are no longer flying all over the place when cutting them, and the cuts are precised so far, hardly any crumbs. Can’t wait to try splitting smaller pills and see how it turns out. Will recommend to family and friends.

I don’t often leave reviews, whether positive, neutral or negative but I really felt compelled to write about this product.
I ordered an Equadose pill cutter Monday morning on Amazon and had it by 6 pm with same day delivery. I first tried using it Tuesday morning and after a few trial cuts I had become quite comfortable using it. Even with arthritis in my thumb, it was not hard for me to use.
And I didn’t need to watch the online videos, it’s really quite user friendly.
We have four geriatric kitties, one is almost 20, Two are 17 and the youngest is 9. They’re all showing their age in different ways, however Sam, 17, has the most health issues with hyperthyroidism and now hypertension which was discovered recently when he suddenly lost his vision. Poor fella had a BP of 300, and like people, it should’ve been 120-130. He’s on 3 different medications now and all have to be split into halves and quarters and given twice a day. I have to cut a lot of pills!
Accuracy of the dosage is critical to getting his blood pressure under control. His vision & BP are slowly improving but still not quite where they need to be just yet. He will be on these medications for the rest of his lifetime.
You can imagine how frustrated we were when we were trying to split all those tablets with a standard razor blade type pill cutter. I tried no less than 4 brand new cutters plus a new one that the pharmacist tried. The blood pressure pill amlodipine was the most difficult to cut, it’s hard, brittle and crumbles. It either shattered or split unevenly. We tried tablets from 3 different suppliers, all with the same issues. It is rather expensive drug too, but our main concern was getting consistently equal cuts. The other meds weren’t nearly as bad as the amlodopine but I was still not happy with how they were cutting either as they too were uneven.
My husband resorted to using a hacksaw…you can imagine where that was going…trip to the ER was just waiting to happen!!
He then saw the Equadose pill cutter on Amazon and agreed that we should give it a go. At first if seemed a bit pricey but not when we realized we had already spent more than that on buying razor blades in little plastic boxes that were made in China.
On my first try, I was able to split at least 3 weeks of Sam’s meds in maybe 10-15 minutes. All those perfectly cut little tabs are now organized in little Rx bottles, ready to be added to Sam’s 7 day tower pill organizer that we also bought here on Amazon. Finally, we are able to give our fur-baby the correct doses of his meds. what a relief.
We can’t thank the Tripletts enough for designing and making such a great pill cutter. And it’s made from airplane aluminum right here in the USA! It’s so sturdy it should last for years.
For many people, it might not be a life or death, eyesight or blindness issue, but to our Sam it most certainly is, so it is to us too.
The Equadose pill cutter was WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY!!!!

I rarely write reviews unless something is truly great or really awful…this is truly great. I’ve been through cheap and mid priced pill cutters, all of which have been lousy. I have a small round scored pill to cut each day and it always ended up splintered, powder and bits and pieces of the pill broken off. Until now. This pill cutter cuts sharply and cleanly, two perfect halves. It is weighty and good quality. I don’t know why I was being cheap for so long! This is truly worth the extra couple bucks. Buy it you won’t be disappointed!
