Our newborn had their (“their” is used to keep gender anonymous) first diaper rash, as will happen sometimes, but it wasn’t healing normally at all. I had been using two other organic and natural diaper balms on it (along with airing the area out and changing diapers frequently), but healing was still slow and there was no visible improvement after several days. I hadn’t opened this yet but I decided to try it out before we took baby to see a physician (to make sure it wasn’t something more than just a diaper rash). Within one day the area looked less red. Two days and the rashy area had shrunk noticeably. 3 days and the rash was very mild, like when it was first developing. By the end of the week the rash had pretty much cleared up, minus a few trouble spots in some hard to reach areas.
Now the rash very well could have been on its way to healing while using those other two balms but the marked and visibly noticeable improvement after switching to Dr. Bronner’s is what makes me attribute the quick healing to this product. While the rash is long gone, I still use after every diaper change, just as a preventative measure. Even those trouble spots are gone now, and no sign of a new rash developing at all and it’s been months!
There are very few ingredients in this, about 10, and I can pronounce all of them. It has a thick, creamy texture, and is somewhat greasy upon application, but not sticky or gross, and unlike Vaseline, thick application doesn’t create a barrier that disallows absorption into the diaper, which means no leaks! No fragrance at all, no dyes or colors (balm is the color of Vaseline) and baby did not have any reaction to the balm whatsoever. I occasionally use it to moisturize my knuckles, as they get super dry with all the hand washing. Anyone familiar with Dr. Bronner’s products know they often have a myriad of uses and this product is no different. My review is specifically about use on diaper rashes however, because that is what we primarily use it for.
Overall, I would highly recommend this product for diaper rashes. At the very least, you could try it out before moving on to something stronger or trying a more extreme approach!
