I am not sure what was wrong with the previous reviewers version of this product. Perhaps they left the forming tray on causing the pain or they had never word a mouth guard before.
As my title states this is another version of a previous product. I bought that previous product and was extremely happy with its fit, comfort and size. I got about a year and a half (only supposed to get about a year out of them) out of this product as I am not always a heavy tooth grinder. I looked at several replacement brands since that version was no longer available. None of the others had the same quality fit and size to them so I never replaced my original one but kept it going. All of the others were not comfortable or did not fit my mouth properly.
Finally I found this product which is a new version of the previous one I had.
It took about 5 minutes to form, fit and lock in the guard. The fit was very snug but not annoyingly so. Compared to my worn out one it was a nice change. My mouth is used to this fit and form so I woke up feeling perfectly fine with no pain. After a week with the new guard in I still have 0 complaints about it. Compared to expensive dentist made ones this is a good quality product at a comparatively cheap price.
I do not have a huge mouth so this fits in there very nicely. if you have a small mouth this may start banking on the larger side. The mold-able portion of the guard extends out past the plastic holding tray a little bit so that your teeth are encased in the mold and not biting on the holding tray at all. It is not super thick so your teeth are not spread uncomfortably apart at night. I would call this more a minimalist design. I have tried others that extend out around the teeth and it was very annoying as my lips did not seal at night drying out my mouth.
The new hard plastic forming tray that the guard comes in is nice. You can hold that under the hot water for the time necessary and then pop it right in your mouth with no issues. This helps give a more uniform fit and not bend the guard in any odd ways due to your personal bite. Once formed you simply run it under cool water and pop it out of the forming tray.
The included case is nice albeit a little bit too large for the guard.
I am very pleased with this product and am looking to purchase a few extras so I do not have to go on the wiled hunt again.
There are a lot of mouth guards out there for the same purpose. I wont call this the best for everyone but for my needs it is the best I have been able to find. The other brands do have a good product (my wife prefers one of the other brands). so do some research and you may have to do some trial and error to get the one that works for you. As a light to moderate night time grinder this guard has the fit, comfort and life span I desire. This product for me, is as close to not wearing a guard at night as I can get so I am very pleased.
I hope this helps some of you and Happy sleeping.

Update 6/15/2013
I had to replace my original one a week ago. I was in the middle of moving houses, living with the in laws and taking on a lot more at work so I ground my teeth abnormally hard (for me) for two months and wore the original one out.
If you are a hard grinder this may not be the one for you but for moderate to light grinding I stand by my original review. I am on my second one now.
One bit of advise with the carrying case:
If you wash your guard off in the morning after use do not seal it up in the case until it is dry.
The moisture inside the case can turn to mold depending on your climate and discolor and ruin the guard.
This is the primary reason I replaced mine, it had some months left in it after I got moved and out of the in laws etc but the mold part was unpleasant.
Even if you clean you guard regularly it will build up. Just FYI.

ive tried 3 different guards from amazon, this one was the best packaged, best instructions, very good quality guard, build to last, quite thick which may be an issue to some, when closing your mouth it leaves a bigger gap than other guards. compared to others it is more comfortable, however it is not the snuggest most secure fit compared to other options, almost feels loose to where i was concerned it would fall out of my mouth during sleep, but was happily suprised that i woke up with it still in and secure. so perhaps my initial thoughts are wrong. also remolding is always an option to try to make it more secure. overall great guard. one of the best on amazon.

I have been using this product for a decade or more, and it just gets better with each improvement. My first dental guard was custom-made by my dentist for a lot of money ($100s, as I recall), and it lasted maybe a year. I decided that was way too much to pay, so I got one of these for around $20. I can now use them for over a year before they wear out. They fit tight and don’t bother you at all when you sleep. The formed part does eventually detach from the the flexible plastic outer guard, but that process takes months to complete, and you can still use it till it completely separates. The key is to brush it thoroughly every time you brush your teeth, so it stays clean and sanitary. You can ignore the “don’t wear any longer than 6 months” advice, unless you have some peculiar dental problems. I don’t, other than bruxism (teeth grinding).
One tip: before you heat the new mouth guard and insert it into your teeth, practice a couple of time to make sure you align it properly. I heat it on the stove in water rather than using the microwave, just because I trust that more.
Second tip: when you’ve heated the mouth guard properly (follow all the instructions), and are ready to stick it in your mouth, don’t bite down too hard and also leave just a little bit of room in front of your front teeth for some of the silicone to remain there as you bear down with your bite. If you bite down too hard you will hit the flexible plastic outer guard, and that will weaken the bond of the silicone to the outer guard, shortening the life of you mouth guard considerably. Remember that most of the grinding and wear come from your back teeth, so you want a bit more “cushion” back there than in the front, so think of biting down with more pressure on your front teeth than on your back teeth. I know that sounds weird, but practice it a little, and you will see what I mean.
Third tip: once you have bitten down on the new mouth guard, maintain your bite until the directions say to let loose, and very slowly remove the guard from your teeth. It will want to stick at first, and you don’t want to yank crowns off as you remove it. If necessary, swish a little water around in your mouth and then ease the guard off your teeth.
If things don’t work the first time, you can try one more time, but the mouth guard will probably not last as long or fit quite as well, so get it right the first time! Practice!

I have severe bruxism and never sleep without a mouth guard for fear of cracking a tooth. For years, I avoided the dentist and instead used OTC mouth guards like this one from Dentek. In retrospect this was a terrible idea, it ruined my bite and led to other dental problems (outlined below).
I’ve tried many different brands of OTC mouth guard and depending on the quality, I could sometimes chew through one in a matter of days. This one by Dentek was the most durable and comes with a 6-month product protection guarantee. It never lasted quite that long, more like 3 months, before cracking near my back molars. This likely had less to do with the actual quality of the guard and more to do with my bite, which ironically (or maybe not) was ruined by wearing non-dental grade mouth guards for too long.
AFAIK the size of this mouth guard is “one size fits all”. For me, the length was too short, stopping just before my last set of molars. This caused my jaw placement to shift over time into more of an open bite where only my back molars touch. If my bite were even, I could see this product lasting the full 6 months or more.
The fitting process is a bit tedious and fiddly. Read through the instructions once or twice before starting the process so you know what to expect or you risk having to start over.
Overall, this is a durable mouthguard though the sizing may not be ideal. If the overall fit isn’t near perfect, it could lead to serious dental problems in the future. I recommend this product over others in the same class, but advise against using an OTC mouthguard long term. Go to the dentist, don’t wait!
