Reviews I’d Want My Kids To Read Before Buying –
Got the Rite Aid Cold Sore and Fever Blister Treatment for the medicine cabinet. This is a two pack which has been well sealed. The product actually expires in 14 months but there is no manufacturing date indicated. So if you are buying this as a backup, you might want take the expiry date in consideration.
Also I noticed that the single pack of the same product is at 1/3rd the price – so this dual pack is way more expensive. Generally you buy the two pack as a value added bonus to save money but that is not the case here. RiteAid is a well known name for several years and their generics are a great value.

This is a review for Rite Aid Cold Sore and Fever Blister Treatment – Docosonal Cream, 2 ct
I’m not sure how to review this…my child’s cold sore cleared up on its own before we had a chance to try it. I’ll stick it in the medicine cabinet and update my review next time we need it. I do like having it on hand.

I cannot speak to any medical claims. The 2 pack is great so it will last longer. There is no scent and I don’t get any adverse reactions. For what it is made for I have noticed it cuts down the healing time from my experience.

Like the title says, it works as good as the name brand products. The main ingredient the the same as other products, and for the price for a two pack, it’s a really great deal. Didn’t notice any side effects or any other issues.

The Rite Aid Cold Sore Cream for Cold Sore and Fever Blister with docosanol works for the control of cold sores. Just don’t be in a hurry to use it, because it will take you 10 minutes to get the product out of the packaging!
I know it has to be packaged that way because the tubes are so small, but it took me 10 minutes to extricate a tube from the plastic. Once that happened, then treatment was easy.
The cream is easy to apply in a thin film, and luckily has little to no taste. It works tonumb the area, and can be applied multiple times a day so you get relief.
One of the best things about this product is that it has fairly good dating. The expiration date on my product was a good year off. And with two tubes contains the cream, you can use one now and keep one for the next time a flare up occurs.

We got this for a family member, who suffers cold sores from time to time, and he said that this worked because it contains the active ingredient Docosanol, which decreases the healing time of a cold sore when used as quickly as possible on an area showing telltale signs of a breakout; signs like itching and tingling and raising of the height of a small area around the lips. Docosanol works most commonly at a concentration of 10%, although many people still find it inadequate on its own, which is why he adds lysine tablets and topical lysine as well. He said this worked as expected, decreasing healing time and making the breakout easier to manage, and he gave this five-stars for being effective.
This is a generic form of Abreva, with the same concentration of the active ingredient Docosanol, and it works identically for him, when swapped out. He reports that lysine tablets all work the same for him, so he buys the cheapest and they work, and then topical lysine products vary based on inactive ingredients, so he uses the one that works best for him. Everyone has their own sensitivities to such things, but most people in our family use “Basic Brands L-Lysine Ointment” as a daily lip balm (because even those who never had a cold sore found out that nearly everyone has this virus in their history and has actually had a cold sore before, probably in childhood), and he uses that as well. However, during breakouts, he uses this same product with extra pure powdered lysine dissolved and mixed into the ointment, and that works very well for him.
With proper application of all that we know about cold-sores, sufferers can greatly diminish the time from onset to healing while also diminishing the severity of the outbreak, so that embarrassment and pain can be minimized as well, and the best regimen my brother ever found is using Docosanol 10% topically and then topical lysine and then lysine tablets in order to beat the infection back into dormancy; and he says that this is very effective for him. Good luck in finding what works for your needs.

… so I did. Both products have the exact same active and inactive ingredients; the active ingredients are the same concentration, and the net weight is the same. The wording on this package is almost the same as on Abreva’s as to warnings, usage, etc. With both products seemingly the same, the only other differentiator I can think of is price. I usually have no issue using “generics” if the active ingredients are equivalent since the generic price is usually much less. Not in this case (and the reason for my three stars.)
