I usually clip my nails using a desktop magnifying lamp. For toenails, I get myself and the lamp down on the floor. (Hope you enjoyed that image.)
“Has anyone invented a clipper with a magnifying light?” I wondered. So I went to amazon and lo, someone had.
Unfortunately the clipper itself is not good. It cuts short, hard little snips in a straight line. Because of the “guards” put up one side, you can’t slide the clipper on to your nail sideways, which makes it really hard to get a neat cut, especially on the toes.
I tried to see if the clipper could be removed from the plastic so that I could put a better quality one in there– i.e. the kind you get for 99 cents at the supermarket checkout– but this is not possible.
The light and magnifying glass are both of good quality. But because they can’t be moved, you have to line up each cut in a straight line between four points: 1. your eyes 2. the light 3. the cutting edge 4. the nail.
Since points 2. and 3. are fixed together– and have to come at the nail straight on, because the plastic guard means you can’t slide the clipper in sideways– you have to get pretty nimble with points 1. and 4. This is easy for some nails but almost impossible for others, in particular the nail on the smallest toe.
I’m fairly flexible; at age 55 I can still touch my toes to my nose. (Enjoy that image too.) But I wasn’t able to get every nail lined up and visible with this tool.
My final gripe is that this thing was packaged, wholly unnecessarily, in far more plastic than it was made out of. So yes, I’m going to ding the manufacturer for whale-choking.
I considered returning it but decided to keep it because it is handy for some of my 20 nails and it appears that no one else is making them. If anyone else does decide to make them, a gooseneck light/magnifier and a replaceable nailclipper (or a space for one to add one’s own) would be a good idea. And get rid of those pointless side “guards” that make the clipper that much harder to manipulate.

Great idea and product. Works well for doing my 8 year olds nails. I had gotten it for my 2 month old but the clippers are a bit too big. Still great for my older kid!

These clippers are larger than baby trimmers, but I find they still work well on tiny fingers. And the light and magnifying glass make it easy! Plus the light draws their attention and makes it easier!

We’re all worth it! –
I bought this to replace my daughter’s “safety first” brand lighted nail clipper (for babies). The light on that one had a battery that was not replaceable. I took a chance on this one not really knowing what to expect, and I’m glad I did because this one is great! The blade is normal sized (for adults) so it is faster to trim her nails, plus the battery is replaceable in this one so we can keep using it for many years to come! I’m pleased.

These are useless, they don’t clip well. You have to almost bend over and look at it to see through the Magnifier. I should have sent them back I didn’t I’m disabled, and getting things out. It’s not easy.

Took me a while to figure out how to get this to work properly, but I have visual challenges, shaky hands, and a bit of a belly , so cutting toenails is challenging! But this little gadget works great. I wish I could explain how to get the light, magnifier and Clipper to work just right, lots of twisting and flipping , but now that I’ve figured out the “mechanics” , works great!
