Great product but when I received them the inventory/shipping sticker was stuck right over the medical dosage instructions on the back of both my boxes. Wish they would think before covering important information with stickers.

This is a review of Chloraseptic Total Sore Throat and Cough Lozenges, Sugar Free, Wild Cherry.
As a disclaimer I am an adult, at least chronologically. My experience is limited to use as an adult, not as or with children.
I have used Chloraseptic Products for years. Their pump spray numbed my throat but was a pain in the neck if it went down the wrong way. I also felt I didn’t get the same amount sometimes.
Lozenges are portable, deliver a consistent predictable effect by volume – which is the reason I switched.
I prefer the ingredient mix of Total versus the Max.The Max does deliver 15 mg of Benzocaine versus the 6 mg in Total. However it lacks the cough suppressant Dextromethorphan HBr 5 mg. Both have 10 mg of Menthol. I have not tried the Max and cannot comment on its effectiveness.
Honestly I knee jerk pick the wild cherry. I am just a sucker for it. The flavor seems to last only a few minutes once the Menthol and Benzocaine kick in. Which is the whole point.
Relief for me is rapid. The lozenge dissolves completely in about 20 minutes, liquid center and all. I have to fight the urge to chew the lozenge and its center sometimes. It’s better if it melts slowly.
When I get a sore throat it usually has something to do with some respiratory ailment, where I get a hacking cough. That’s where this helps get rid of that “tickle”. Diminish that cough. Save my throat.
If my throat starts to get “raw” from coughing then I am usually calling my physician to be on the safe side. This is for more minor pain and cough relief – as it claims.
Every time I open the box I keep thinking this should be a box of 18 not 15 since there is that empty space which looks like it would accommodate another lozenge. The Lozenges are just shy of an inch long. 3/8 inch high and just shy of a half inch wide – for those who always wondered.
It is easy to push the foil to access the lozenge. As opposed to some pills where you feel like you need to pound it out and almost smash the pill.
My latest purchase had an expiration date that was 17 months away.
The duration of relief seems to vary with how sick I feel. I only use one lozenge every four hours.
The recommendation is two every four hours not to exceed 12 in 24 hours. The relief with one at best is slightly less than four hours. I prefer one versus two just to track how bad are my symptoms – and if I need them longer than 12 hours. It just makes more sense to me.
Be mindful the recommended dosage for adults is also affected by how you metabolize the ingredients. The condition of your liver. Dextromethorphan is metabolized “heavily” by the liver. I cannot comment on how the HBr differs from any other form of Dextromethophan. I am not a chemist or pharmacist.
It also can be habit-forming. Be careful if using this in combination with anything else. If you are on multiple prescription drugs talk to your doctor first.
Yes it is OTC but still a medication.
There are package warnings.
Do not use if you are using any prescribed MAO inhibitor.
Do not use if you have any allergies or history of reactions to any of the “Caine” family of local anesthetics.
Forgive the repetition of package information – but it bears repetition.
I want to be able to reach for what I know is safe when I get sick. An ounce of prevention and all that. If I am foggy that is not the time to process what is on the box.
These are on hand when I need them.
In the cabinet.
They work. They are an effective adjunct to any cold, sore throat regime.
Usually for a reasonable price, even better with subscribe and save.
Addenda: Pay attention to the dosing and usage for children. Like everything else pediatric dosing differs. It is halved as is the dosage limit. The package states do not use with children from 6 to 12 years old for more than two days. If the child is under 6 years of age talk to your doctor FIRST before use. Choking hazard.
Better safe than sorry.
