It’s one of the DHA supplements for kids that have higher level of DHA. Just one tablet instead of the 2/4 that other brands require. Like others mentioned, it’s a liquid capsule which is not what one would describe as chewable. I think like/dislike depends on the kid. My 4.5 yrs old son loves it. I tried it myself. The liquid doesn’t taste too fishy; no strong after taste. The shell feels quite hard and takes a while to bite and fully dissolve.

I believe this is a high quality product–at least I’m sure it’s full of fish oil! You can chew these capsules but you’ll wish you hadn’t because the fishy taste is overpowering. They’re quite a bit smaller than most adult fish oil capsules so my six-year-old can swallow them. If you need a smaller fish oil capsule for your child or yourself, this is a good option.

It does not taste like orange either. The shell is thick and worthless. It contains beef gelatin, glycerin, and water. I tried it and was unable to bring myself to swallow it. The liquid quickly disperses once bitten and then you are left with this weird plastic like shell. Its chewable like erasers, rubber bands, or seran wrap is chewable. I am left puzzling why the shell at all. Just mix it into a powder form or offer it as a liquid to add to drink or food.
update: I see they do offer liquid which is what I have now ordered but not tested yet. For now I poke small hole in this non-chewable and squirt the good stuff out into drink. Chewing the shell is like chewing or sucking on a contact lens. If feels just like when, in my younger days, I would spend night away from home and in morning have to place lens in my mouth to moisten it and keep it clean until I got home. It is simply not a natural feeling.

Since this product said “chewable” I assumed it would be like some sort of gummy bear. It is not. You have to chew it or bite in it until the oil pops out and then you keep having to chew the plastic coating. I spit that out. I haven’t let my kids try them yet even though they are the ones I bought them for. I don’t want them having to chew or swallow this plastic or gelatin or whatever it is. I am going to see if I can get a refund. I will not buy this kind again. Also, the taste was fine and one of the reason I bought it was because of the higher amounts of fish oil compared to other chewables but this is NOT a chewable in my book 🙁

For these to be for kids I am surprised that the cap is not child proof. My 4 year old has opened it 3 times as I try to write this review. That being said, she has no problem chewing them and requests them all day long. By the third dose my 8 year old learned how to swallow a pill as she found the taste to be awful. I just tried one and have to agree with her. Bleh!

Originally purchased in a bricks-and-mortar along with several other DHA/EPA supplements for my toddler, we stuck with Carlson Kids for the *quality of ingredients, *price, and *ease of consumption. I have compared a TON of child and adult fish oil supplements, and this was one of the few products I found to exceed my expectations in cost vs EPA/DHA levels. These have 100mg DHA + 50mg EPA per pill (that’s right – per single pill!).
My now 5-year old takes these with no problem – she likes to “pop” them in her mouth: she thinks the oil is yummy and has no complaints about the remaining gelatin skin which she swallows. She has also tried the liquid oil by spoon (messy), sour powder/crystals (yuck), as well as gummies – all failures for one reason or another. I very much love this product as an easy & economical way to get essential acids in to my daughter’s diet and will continue to purchase!

The importance of DHA for the developing brain is pretty well documented through research. In my mid, with that fact, I look for other qualities of the product. This is a gel capsule that is easily popped in the childs mouth, and it has an orange flavor which the kids like. There ya go, too easy. Which is important for kids. Here is an anecdotal, n=1 research study from my family. My 4 year old for the past year has not lost to an adult in the “memory” matching games. I’m talking big games with up to 60 matching cards. I am not gifted with this ability, nor is my wife. We’ve had him play some smart adults, and he always wins. Everybody is pretty amazed. Now my 3 year old little girl seems to be heading that direction also. The differences for them…..they have eaten paleo all their life and they have taken DHA since they were a year old. Is it the healthy diet? Or is it the supplement? I don’t know, so take it for what it’s worth!

I bought this at my local health food store to try and then purchased it from Amazon afterwards since it was less expensive. I purchased it because my son is a typical 9-year-old and struggled with paying attention in school or at home. I started him on these on a Tuesday and by two days later, my mom said she had already noticed a difference. I wasn’t sure, so I waited until the next week when he started school. Sure enough, he pays much better attention in class and does a much better job of staying on task during homework time at home. I am so thrilled with these!
The only drawback – he doesn’t like the flavor as much as some of the other brands, but he eats them anyway.
I also used these in conjunction with Source Naturals Attentive Child Chewables.
