When you’re in the mental health trenches and lobbing everything you can at the problem, it’s hard to distinguish what was the most affective. Improved physical health, therapy, weather, life circumstance, medication, diet, supplements. Who could really know? So I’m giving a little credit to this supplement, since I am better than before and it didn’t present any negative side effects (other than the gelatin taste of the capsule shell, just have a good drink to wash it down).

This product does give me a relaxing feeling, but I’m not sure if it’s from the kava or all of the other ingredients in it. I do notice just better effects from making kava the old fashioned way with a bag strainer.

I am not a fan of the ‘kitchen sink’ approach to supplements, which gave me a poor first impression of this Ultra Herbs product. I regularly use Kava Kava as a standalone product, so I thought I would try this one out. The only positive aspect to this product was the Kava was labeled as Standardized to 22% kavalactones. The addition of 6 more ingredients and the claim of 21,220mg on the label are supplement marketing at it’s worst. The labeling is misleading at best- you actually are getting 110mg of kavalactones per capsule, with 350mg of additives. If any of these additional ingredients were of any benefit, good luck sorting it out. More significantly, if you experienced any side effects or reaction, pick any of 5 ‘active’ ingredients to blame. (I am excluding the paltry additions of B-6 and black pepper.)
The claim of 21+ grams is based on the amount of herbs that the herbal extracts were derived from. This is similar to saying a 12 oz. can of soda with 39 grams of high fructose corn syrup contains 500 grams of corn on the cob.
Putting aside the silly ingredient labeling, the product says it is ‘formulated in USA’ which should not be confused with made in USA. Where was it actually made? They are not required to disclose where it is manufactured, but it is safe to guess it is far from Springfield, Missouri.
