I used Campho-Phenique cold sore treatment whilst visiting my brother and his family in Texas, USA last year and it was the 1st treatment to ever give me a treatment that did not leave the cold sore looking like a yellow eruption. I could not believe the almost instant relief to the cold sore and within a matter of 48-72 hours the cold sore was healing (whereas all products tried in UK have taken at least 7 days before cold sore has started to heal. I am so pleased to be able to buy this product now thru Amazon as it stands proud of any product previously tried.

Cold sores never go away unfortunately. They just become dormant, waiting for the next flare up when your body’s defenses are down. I get them several times a year and after some research, bought this to treat them, as well as two tubes of Zilactin Cold Sore Gel. For me, Campho-phenique is much more effective, and most recently, prevented a full on outbreak last week for which I’m extremely grateful. The moment I started feeling that characteristic itchy/bumpy sensation around my lip, I applied this gel.
Within 3 or 4 days, my condition cleared up. To use, I squeeze a little onto my finger and apply to the affected area. I treated 2-3x a day. I like the menthol smell and sensation. However, it’s a bit runny compared to Zilactin and easy for the liquid to get into my mouth and cause a slightly numbing sensation on my tongue. It’s not very unpleasant, but it’s also not nice. While the area is treated, you should avoid eating or drinking anything. If you’re thirsty, you can drink from a straw.
Zilactin has a higher viscosity, and looks like epoxy or modeling glue, so it stays on the affected area better. However, it isn’t as effective and does not prevent a full outbreak. The virus continues to run its course. The Zilactin only dries out the blister, causing a scab to form. The last few times I treated with Zilactin, I had an embarrassing and very visible scab on my lip.
Campho-phenique all the way! I can’t say the same will work for you, but try out a few medications and see which is the best. Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment, .07-Ounce Tube is another common treatment, but I have not tried it.

This product is perfect. A friend told me that it helps with herpes.
I tried and I loved it! In less than 24hs the herpes go away. It want only once. Since I started to use the Campho-phenique my herpes doesn’t erupt. When I feel my lips or skin sore, I start to use and helps a lot.
Now I indicate to everybody that I know. This is cheap, you can buy at least 3 with the price that you pay for Abreva and I still have the same tube.
I’m very satisfied, now all my family have using this product.

I have been using this product for a few years and the results are excellent. I get painful sores on my tongue or inside my lips occasionally. Even though the instructions indicate that it is for external use only, I put a tiny bit on my tongue or lips and the next day, the sore is gone. It is better than anything that I have used in the past.
Cory –
I am unable to deal with my cold sores without Campho-phenique. Although it doesn’t actually cause the sores to heal any faster, it is a life saver with regards to pain management. I usually just put a tiny dab on the cold sore every couple of hours. The initial pain during application is intense, but it soon subsides such that the cold sore isn’t painful at all.
I have found it helpful to liberally apply Carmex Lip Balm Small (Pack of 12) afterwards to help seal the wound from the elements and speed actual recover.

Amazing product to keep your cold sores clean and dry, what I do while I use this product is this:
Apply as many times you can through the day, but every time you do make sure to clean the affected area then apply, I also use zilactin(red one for cold sores) at bed time to keep the cold sore clean, and in the morning after shower I apply campho-phenique again, the whole process will last for up to 3-4 days instead of over a week. Over all I love this product!

The Campho-phenique Cold Sore Treatment with Drying Action, 0.23 Ounce is a great value on here, much cheaper then in the drugstore or even the box stores. This is the best product for cold sores on you lip and mouth. It is also great for a canker sore or any sore in your mouth ( Just put a dab on your finger or a q tip and apply to sore) it will tasted bad but deal with it, it will get rid of the pain and heal quickly) just do not drink or eat for at least one hour. Trust me…
