I had been working my way through a bag of hawthorn berry powder (Crataegus monogyna) from Starwest Botanicals for many months. I take it for a minor issue with irregular heartbeat. It works well for that. I have been changing up many of the supplements that I take, and spent time looking at numerous reviews on Amazon, since I needed to finally purchase more hawthorn.
I had been taking roughly 500 mg 4 x day with a 10 ml glass vial of ginseng extract. I do this for heart health and stamina. It makes a huge difference for this Boomer.
So I got this Bulk Supplements brand of hawthorn berry extract powder (Crataegus pinnatifida) and simply eyeballed the same volume of powder on a spoon and began taking it for a couple of days. The first thing I noticed was the delicious fresh tart fruity taste. I did not worry about taking more of this than I had been taking of the Starwest because, after all, people use the hawthorn berries as food and make jelly from them — how potent an effect can there be? I was about to find out.
The first night after taking this new hawthorne I could not sleep because my legs were HOT. Into the second day I began to feel weird all over and finally realized maybe I had better back off the hawthorn and do some research. Dr. Mercola had one of the best pages on the multiple beneficial effects of hawthorn.
I got out my little pocket scale that can measure in milligrams and realized that the matching volume of Bulk Supplements powder was twice as heavy, AND was an extract. So I had been taking way, way more active components of hawthorn suddenly. Additionally, it is a different species of hawthorn. The monogyna variety is common hawthorn and is the variety of most preparations on Amazon. The pinnatifida variety is Chinese hawthorn, and has much larger berries, looking like small apples. This variety has a long history in Oriental medicine.
I’m only into my fourth day on this new hawthorn, and some subtle beneficial effects are showing up. I plan to update this post in a month.

Wow. This hawthorn berry extract is very soft and fresh; it smells natural and tastes very tart, like it should. It’s mostly palatable, and when mixed with something a little sweeter, it tastes great. It can easily be put into capsules as well.

This stuff mixes well in my morning coffee with the little battery powered micro frother I ought on Amazon. Tastes kinda sweet and fruity, little bit earthy. I like it. Probably good for my BP too, but that could be all the cardio I do at the gym afterwards. Love the price on this stuff.

I was suffering from severe chest pain. Going to the doctors didn’t help one bit. Take several ex rays, and 2 cat-scans but showed nothing. It become severely worst when I walk and I get tired easily and have to pull really hard to breathe. I said to him u know my conditions, I can’t do that and u know I won’t be able to make it, but I really couldn’t miss that train, so I started walking faster and next thing I was actually running up those long stairs,when I got into the train and sat down, that’s when I realized I actually made it. I couldn’t believe it, and I felt stronger in my body now than I did before I started taking this supplement. Am very thankful to the makers of the product as it has given me back my life. I believe it’s a miracle product, it saved my life.

After a few months hardened up badly. Need an ax to chop off a piece. Kept at room temperature, normal humidity.

Just got it. Looks, smells, seems alright.. serving size is 2/5 tsp.. I would expect some kind of measurement spoon/scoop/something. Nope. Go figure.
