I stopped using highly fragranced laundry supplies, and I use one in the front load washer with the door slightly open to keep it smelling fresh. Also use these in the linen storage for the same fresh smell. It isn’t over powering and the bright colour ensures I see it to remove before using the washer.

First thing, these little small balls pack a punch! We just moved and painted all cabinets so the kitchen had an annoying paint scent in there. My grandma actually had these and gave some to me. When I used it, I noticed the smell almost vanish immediately. Needless to say, the ones she gave me ran out, so I decided to get some more. I got rid of a star because of the price. In my opinion it shouldn’t be so costly considering baking soda cost about 1 dollar and this does not have nearly as much. Besides that, this thing is pretty darn good. It traps the smells and last pretty long. I want more, but I will probably seek a cheaper alternative first.

I would definitely recommend this product. I tried different ways to get rid of bad odour from my jacket. I tried washing it multiple times, drying in open air etc, nothing worked, but when I got this I put three unit in my jacket and tightly closed the bag for few days and finally no more bad odour. This really worked out!!!!

EDIT #2: I wrote my previous edit a over a month ago, and I am once again upping my rating, this time to the full five stars.
After using the first ball in my laundry closet for 60 days I replaced it, but just out of curiosity I placed the “expired” ball in a small drawer where I keep my dog’s harness. I wanted to see how well it would work, and I was surprised to find that it continued masking odors for another month before I finally noticed the effect wearing off. So while A&H says to replace these every 2 months, it seems that you can safely bump it up to 3 and still get good results. That really increases the value of these things, and overall I’m just really impressed with this product. I would definitely say that these are on the same high level as other A&H products, and up to 9 months of odor elimination for $6 is a steal in my opinion. Definitely glad I stuck with these, and I can now highly recommend them.
EDIT: I’m upping my rating from three stars to four. I still think that these could be stronger, and I generally expect more from A&H products. But I originally wrote this review a few weeks ago, and I’ve had one of these balls sitting inside of my laundry closet the entire time. It’s a small closet, but it houses my dirty laundry hamper so it always smells pretty funky in there. To my surprise, I’ve noticed that the entirety of the closet now smells noticeably better and cleaner than it ever has before. One odor ball does a good job of masking the dirty/sweaty smells, not just near the hamper, but throughout the entire closet as well, even the very top. It doesn’t neutralize the bad odors entirely or anything, but it is doing a better job than I initially gave it credit for, and I would much rather have these than not.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: These do work, but I just wish they were better.
Maybe my expectations were too high, since I’m a fan of A&H products. But I thought these would eliminate odor more than they actually do. They work best in really small/confined spaces (cabinets/gym bags/laundry hampers/etc) but even then, the odor elimination isn’t as powerful as I hoped it would be. The bad odors still remain, though they are definitely subdued. These barely do anything in larger spaces though (closets/etc) which is very disappointing. I don’t expect miracles but I did expect them to help a *little* in an extremely small apartment closet, which they don’t. The balls themselves have a strong, chemical-y scent, which I personally like, but it definitely made me grimace when I first smelled it up close. But if anything, I guess I wish they were even stronger – maybe then they would do a better job of truly eliminating odors.
I think these are still fine and worth the price (each ball is $2 and lasts for 2 months which is a pretty solid value) but don’t expect to use them for anything larger than a duffel bag.

I purchased these to put in the bottom of my garbage can in our garage. We keep a garbage bag in the can but especially during the summer it would smell bad by the end of the week. I put two of these in the can. Keeps the smell away all week long. I now keep one in my kitchen wastebasket also. Not too strong a smell. My husband and I are both sensitive to any strong smell and this doesn’t make either of us sneeze. I also used them to kill the smell in a gym bag I ordered online. It had obviously been stored in a mildewed storage area for some time. Combined with some dryer sheets, I sealed it up with these in a garbage bag for a week or so….smell gone! I have purchased them in local stores, but am now having a hard time finding them. Thanks Amazon!

I have had a pair of Ariat steel toe work boots for about 7 months. They got wet and so did my feet. Since then, there is a smell which wafts from the boots from time to time and it’s embarrassing. I have tried everything I can think of to help it. Enter into the fray these sweet smelling shoe balls. (I giggled at shoe balls; it’s ok if you did too.)
When you open them up, they smell really nice. Strong enough to make you think they’ll overpower whatever you’ve got going on. Well; they do. For five minutes. They mask the smell ok until you take them out of the boots. The smell just comes back. I compared these to a spray product and the spray product seemed to work better. At this point, I may just reassign these boots to the “work outside when I’m not around other people” kind and buy a new pair of boots.
If you need these as a simple freshen up for your crocs they’ll probably be ok. If you have work boots that need some extra TLC; these aren’t it.
