I want to say this before anything else, in case all you read is the first part…I don’t know why they called this an “Exfoliating Body Cleanser.” It kind of gives off the wrong idea. A body cleanser is something that I use every day on my whole body. An exfoliator is something I use a couple times a week in specific areas where I feel like I need exfoliation. I don’t feel like exfoliation is needed on my entire body. For me, I don’t think an exfoliator should be used as a body cleanser like soap or a body wash. It should be used in specific areas. But, others might feel differently or like their whole body needs exfoliators. There is more on this throughout the rest of the review, but I just wanted to make sure I put this part at the beginning.
The ingredients in this are really nice. The main ingredients the product page talks about are the Papaya and Pomegranate fruit enzymes and AHAs (Lactic and Mandelic). They are all high on the ingredient list.
Lactic acid and mandelic acid are GENTLE AHAs. The main 2 AHAs you hear about are glycolic acid and lactic acid. Lactic acid and mandelic acid are more gentle than glycolic acid because they are bigger molecules, so they don’t go through the skin as easily. Since they are larger and can’t go through the skin as easily they are a lot more gentle than glycolic acid, but that also means they are a little less effective. Another benefit of lactic acid is that it’s moisturizing, and another benefit of mandelic acid is is antibacterial properties, so it helps treat acne.
Papaya and pomegranate extracts are natural exfoliants.
The texture is a thin gel. It’s very thin. It does not lather, but I don’t mind that. I’ve used other exfoliating products that don’t lather. My go-to exfoliator is the Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Body Scrub. It’s a sugar scrub. Like most sugar scrubs I’ve used, it doesn’t lather at all. I just rub it onto the area I want to exfoliate and rub it around. It can make it hard to tell where you go it at, but I never have an issue where I feel like I miss huge areas, or any areas really. So, I don’t mind when an exfoliator doesn’t lather.
Overall, I think this is a nice exfoliator. I didn’t notice any tingling like the product description stated (it called it a “tingly cleanser”), but I didn’t expect that given the exfoliating ingredients are all gentle ones. It didn’t lather at all even though the directions for use said it would. I think it worked like any gentle exfoliator. My skin was soft and smooth afterwards. Now, like I said, I exfoliate a couple times a week, so I don’t really have much to exfoliate. But, that’s why I wanted a gentle exfoliator even though I have my go-to sugar scrub. The sugar scrub I love is too much to do a couple times a week. I wanted something gentle to do a couple times a week to maintain my soft, smooth skin. This will do that. Then, once in a while, when I feel I need it, I can use by sugar scrub. I love my Bum Bum Sugar Scrub. It smells amazing and works great, but it’s pretty darn expensive. So, I want to save that for when I need a more deep exfoliation. This one works great for gentle, maintenance exfoliation. I’d definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a GENTLE exfoliator. I do think it’s expensive, but it has really nice ingredients, so I’m willing to pay a little more for that. However, for something so gentle, it’s not something I’m willing to pay the higher price for. I will definitely use this up. But, after that I’ll look for a cheaper gentle exfoliator to replace it. But, if cost isn’t a factor and you want a gentle exfoliator, I would recommend this.

This product was the one thing that actually made a difference in my back acne. So happy I found it! Use it 3 days/week with a loofah and saw immediate results within a few days. My acne was persistent and I had a lot of dark spots. Give yourself more sunscreen on the treated areas & try this product if you’ve been struggling! A little goes a long way.

Love this exfoliator for my body acne and after you shave. This can be used anywhere you have a tendency to get dead skin or acne. It has gentle acids for the body. If you want more physical exfoliation, I recommend using a loofa with it. I suggest that you don’t buy the exfoliators products that have beads or salt because they are not safe to use and can damage the natural skin barrier as well as cause more a threat to the marine life in the oceans.
