I’ve been taking these for the past two weeks and have found them to be easily digestible, and I haven’t had to take them with food. Pycnogenol is supposed to be beneficial for many different areas including skin and heart health. I’ve been taking it to hopefully boost my immune system and help with alleviating allergies. I haven’t noticed any difference yet, but it’s really too soon to tell. The quality seems to be good, and the bottle is dark semi-opaque glass.

Pycnogenol is not a supplement but rather a trademarked name (like Kleenex® is a trademarked name for facial tissue). The underlying supplement is an antioxidant derived from the bark of the French Maritime Pine Tree. It is variously marketed under the tradename Pycnogenol® or as French Maritime Pine bark extract. It is important to look for “standardized extract” products rather than simply pine bark powder which may offer little or no health benefits.
This BlueBonnet formulation offers 50 mg of Pycnogenol from extract, standardized to 65%-75% procyanidins. The bottle contains 30 capsules, and the suggested dose is one a day, so this is a 30-day supply. The caps are small and easy to swallow. The product is pricey, though (about $1 per capsule at the time of this writing).
Pycnogenol has been promoted for a wide range of health benefits. Some of these claims are based on small studies and require further research. But it has shown promise in treating chronic inflammatory and skin disorders. One study found it to be effective in treating ADHD in adults; another reported improved memory in older patients. When combined with l-Arginine, it reportedly improved erectile dysfunction symptoms, although it had to be taken three months before any benefits were reported.
The therapeutic dose of Pycnogenol varies, depending on the reason for taking it. Doses in the range of 50 mg are reportedly effective but only if taken for 3-6 months. In most studies, the standard dose is 100-200 mg daily, split into two equal doses taken with breakfast and dinner. That would be 2-4 of these capsules daily, and the bottle of 30 would last 1-2 weeks. Those on a limited budget may wish to search for products that offer a larger quantity and higher dose at a lower price. It may be suitable as a low-dose trial run. The product is high-quality, free of the usual allergens, non-GMO, vegan-friendly, and Kosher Certified.

I started taking Pycnogenol a few weeks ago hoping to get relief on two fronts: tinnitus and low urine flow. So far I am not seeing any improvement on either front. The good news is that neither has gotten any worse, nor have I noticed any side effects.
It was certainly worth a try, but at least in my case it just haven’t worked out. That doesn’t mean it won’t be useful to others, as there are many possible benefits from taking Pycnogenol. I hope it works out for you.

BlueBonnet’s pycnogenol is a supplement that becomes a staple for me. Pycnogenol aka pine bark extract is relatively unknown to most, and that’s unfortunate as it can really benefit many. Aside for the typical anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits that many supplements offer, pycnogenol is rich is polyphenols and catechins.
I pair it with CoQ10 as they go hand in hand for heart health. Pycnogenol goes well with a plethora of vitamins as it is thought of the enhance the benefits of other supplements when taken together. The pills are very easy to swallow and come in amber glass jars instead of the usual plastic bottle that the majority of supplement companies use. There is a 100mg variation from BlueBonnet I find more cost effective although this is a good option to start with.
I buy too much from Amazon –
Pycnogenol is evidently good for all sorts of things. My husband takes it for his prostate. Others take it for tinnitus, to slow aging, and to help cognitive functions. I read that it’s good for insomnia, so I tried it for that for a month.
I’m not sure if it did anything — perhaps you have to take it longer. All I know is that I usually slept decently once I fell asleep, but that part — falling asleep — was as difficult as always. Once I finished the coourse of pycnogenol, I returned to a large dose of melatonin (50 mg) and that definitely works better, allowing me to fall asleep quite quickly.
Pycnogenol has so many useful properties that I’m inclined to continue taking it as a sort of general panacea, at least if I can find a reasonably priced offering. This one is a bit steep since I’m not sure how much it does for me.

Pycnogenol first caught my attention when I came across Peter Rohdewald’s , where he calls it the longevity vitamin. He talks a lot about pleiotropic effects, meaning it helps to alleviate or reduce symptoms of many unrelated health issues (asthma, osteoarthritis, atherosclerosis, diabetic retinopathy, tinnitus, etc.)
As a powerful antioxidant, Pycnogenol binds to collagen and helps to reduce visible effects of aging. It is also supposed to decrease platelet aggregation in blood vessels and improve blood circulation. According to another research paper published in the Journal of Neurological Sciences (Dec 2014), the daily use of Pycnogenol helps preserve cognitive functions. The participants of the study were taking 50mg/3times per day for 12 weeks.
Overall, Pycnogenol seems like a very safe and well-researched supplement with a wide range of benefits. I started taking it as a preventative, so it is too early to tell how much difference it will make. But like almost all supplements, you never really know if they are doing what you hope. Pretty expensive in this pill size.

I wanted to give these a shot as suggested by my mom. Shes been on Pycnogenols for over a year and says it has completely cured her allergies!! She was severely allergic to cats and would break out in hives. So I wanted to start a regimen for myself as I suffer from seasonal allergies. Time will tell. These are super easy to swallow and there’s zero taste
