Love this product, but the new packaging leaves a lot to be desired. It used to come with a lid that worked well. Now it comes in a cheaper lid that won’t go on and off easily. It makes it much harder to use and makes it a deal breaker for me. I likely won’t buy it again because of the new packaging.

I’ve suffered from cold sores/fever blisters for years, as far back as I can remember. I used to always have 2-3 tubes of Abreva around just in case… until I’ve noticed Abreva no longer stops the outbreaks like it used to, even with me applying at that first sign of tingling. And let’s not forget the price!

One night when I frantically jumped on Amazon to get a new tube of Abreva, this Lysine Lip Ointment popped up in my search results… I was curious and decided, for $4 plus shipping (about $7.xx total), why not – it was still 1/3 of what I was paying for one tube of Abreva. I’ve been using it now for about 7.5 months and this thing is AMAZING. I’ve always been good with putting it on at the first sign of tingling and this stops it from ever forming (like how Abreva used to, grrrr) and I’m hoping it will continue to do so. Only once did I forget and didn’t put it on right away and a small little one formed but with religious application it never got bigger than a little bubble and that went away in about 2 days! Used to be 2+ weeks for me!

I currently have a fever blister on my nose… which I didn’t know you could get, oh the pain… :_( and thank goodness once I realize what it is I immediately apply this Lysine Ointment liberally and it’s been 5 days and it’s already done (scabs about to fall off) and it stopped hurting about 2 days ago. You have to give it a try!

I’m actually home visiting my parents and saw my had currently has one so I just ordered a 2 pack so that he can get one and I have an extra just in case ($7.xx for one or $10.xx for two with free shipping) how could I not?! To think back on how much money I’ve spent on Abreva, I wish I’d discover this sooner!

Side note: this little tub lasts forever. I don’t use it everyday but I do use it regularly, and when I’m applying to a tingling spot or cold sore (the one on my nose right now) I apply a lot, as in I goop it on there(!) and in 7.5 months I’ve only used maybe 1/5 of it, at most. Get it! Your mouth & nose will thank you for it!

Fun Fact: did you know cold sores/fever blisters develop only on mucous membrane… so you can get it on your lips, your nose, and EVEN YOUR EYES!!!!! One of my customers had it in her eye (her MD diagnosed it)… OUCH!

Great for cold sores or sun blisters or chapped, dry lips. My absolute favorite and I use this ointment daily along with l-lysine vitamin supplement. Works! dlp

I like most people in the world deal with cold sores, they are not fun. Cracked, chapped, irritated, and sore. I knew about l lysine products but the price tag on many in the store for such a small quantity is just a rip off, I figured for the price and amount this seemed like a good value and purchased. I found it soothing and odorless and completely helped take a few days off at least of a flare. Super product and will be buying more when I am out.

This product works~soothes and softens chapped lips.

This product was used in conjunction with the oral L-Lysine supplement but does not affect my own personal review of the product of itself. This was written by a family member of Steven who is critically ill and is dependent upon family for care.
After many excruciating months of antibiotic therapy to treat Lyme disease that had been misdiagnosed, my immune system was susceptible to almost everything. As a child, I had a horrible case of chicken pox and as the result of that now as an adult : I had broken out in the most painful and atrocious Shingles my doctor had ever seen on a patient in her 30s. Chicken pox, Shingles, and cold sores all have a common denominator and that is that all of these maladies are a strain of Herpes. For those who carry some embarrassment about this insidious virus, don’t be embarrassed. Although it will always lie dormant in our bodies until activated to erupt for whatever reasons, a VAST percentage of our population is harboring the virus-both the young and the elderly…immunocompromised or just plain stressed out.
I mentioned the Shingles only because I truly wish I had had this jar of balm to use on what was truly the most horrific skin affliction I’ve ever suffered.
I recently came down with the flu and was so sick I had to be in the hospital briefly. It was then that I noticed the corner of my mouth was “cracking” and quite dry. I came home and was complaining to myself that the price of Abreva was absolutely ridiculous and so I went here to Amazon to see if there was another option for topical use. Another friend of a family member had used Abreva but honestly when I saw their next day results I had remembered their disappointment and for good reasons: inflated pricing and pretty commercial ads aside, Abreva wasn’t as awesome as hoped for.
I found this balm here on Amazon but because I am a skeptic I ALSO bought the least expensive oral supplement of L-Lysine (the amino acid which helps to shorten the duration of the eruption(s)).
I have a Prime account but the shipping was even faster than usual which is ideal when treating the symptoms of the virus.
My mouth and lips are always excruciatingly dry from an autoimmune condition leaving me perhaps more vulnerable and even so, cold sores near my mouth are so uncommon that I didn’t have anything on hand excepting lip balm sans the Lysine. I would recommend always having at least the Lysine balm on hand as it works literally overnight.
Once I opened my packages, the first thing I did was to use the Lysine lip balm. Although the corner of my mouth was merely just cracking, I didn’t want to suffer anything further.
In the morning after, I was pleased. The cracking was still there but it was already abating. It didn’t tingle, it didn’t blister, it simply got much better. The second day of using it the cracking was almost gone completely.
I gave this product 4 stars only because it contains petroleum jelly. On the jar the labeling sort of implies it is all natural by printing “Basic Organics”.
Labeling is important to me. However, I do hope the price of this product stays low but I would be willing to pay a few dollars more for an all natural product–perhaps even a truly organic one!
    Highly recommend!

I had a cold sore that was scabbing and had started to bleed, and this helped it and minimize the sore very quickly. I had already been using a small tube of lysine but this jar contains more and will be longer lasting. I can also see how some people use this as a lip balm. It goes on smooth and keeps lips moisturized. It has really sped up the healing process!
