Blechh!! I am going to have to force myself to eat these things. I consider myself to be very open-minded when it comes to food and flavor, and I am a big fan of most lemon-flavored foods. These protein bars are greasy and oily on the outside, and dry and chewy on the inside. Texture aside, the taste is the biggest problem. The opening flavor is a sharp, overwhelming artificial lemon-esque taste that dissipates into a strange sort of aromatic fish and nut combination, with an aftertaste of lemon-flavored fish oil, that lingers due to the greasiness of the bar. Kind of horrifying, honestly. The whole time I am trying to make my way through a bar, I am thinking about how highly processed and un-food like it tastes, but how much protein it has. That is the only reason this bar gets two stars instead of one — high protein content and so few ingredients. It is so artificial-tasting though, so bizarre and unpleasant, that it is not worth it to me to struggle through another box of these. The search for a healthy high-protein bar that is also tasty continues.

These bars are fantastic for a snack bar. Great protein, low sugar, and barely any ingredients! I’m a huge fan of the minimalistic ingredients. It makes me wonder why other companies use so many ingredients when you can get a good tasting bar with less!
The Lemon Cashew is my favorite flavor by far. It’s chewy and tasty. The cinnamon flavor tastes good too, but much drier and more cake like than the others that I’ve had from Rise.
Pros:
– Easily packable protein bar
– Wholesome ingredients
– Very few ingredients
– Pretty good macronutrient profile. Can’t complain much about that.
Cons:
– There is very little fiber. I eat a lot of salads, and I still notice a difference after eating one of these.
– Oils start leaking out of the packaging after a few weeks of sitting in a bag (or shorter if it’s hot out). After a few months of having plant oils leak out into the cloth of my backpack, they start to get a little smelly. I’ve had to wash my backpack to get rid of the odd semi-rancid smell. As long as you eat them right away, it isn’t a big deal. Keep in mind that these aren’t the best bar to store in a bag and forget about.
Overall, I like these bars and have been buying them for the last year or so. Very low in carbs so I can eat them close to bedtime and not feel bad. They also help me boost my protein intake when I’m traveling a lot. Just remember to eat them with water and you’ll be fine!

OK – it’s not as tasty as some – but there is no distaste at all. I easily accept this as a superb tradeoff for a truly healthy protein bar. This lemon-cashew is the first flavor I’ve tried – maybe another has more pop for my taste buds – but, again, I do not care about that but instead seek the “better” alternative. I will not be going back to the more traditional protein bar that comes in 20 flavors. I’m ex-Army, and I wish I had a backpack full of these bars versus the c-rations and candy bars they gave us back in the early 1970s when we went into the field. THANK YOU.

Tastes good, texture is pleasant, macros and ingredients are good for me.

Neither my wife nor I can eat these bars. If you have ever driven past a dog food plant (like Alpo in Allentown, Pa where we used to live), you will recognize the odor as soon as you open the packaging. I managed to get a whole bar down, because of the lemon taste (I love lemon flavored anything), but I will never try another one because of the bad taste and smell. To be sure, I offered one to my wife to see her reaction – her nose wrinkled as soon as the package was torn – she bit off a small bite and said she could not eat it. This woman never throws ANYTHING away, and will eat almost anything, as she said so herself. However, she will NOT touch these bars.
The honey / cashew bars are edible. However, carob is NOT chocolate. Though we are able to eat them, they are no substitute for real dark chocolate.
I will stick to my Quest Bars – they have more protein, and flavor that I have tried has been very, very good – especially the ones with dark chocolate. If Rise is “real food” – I’d rather go hungry than it them.

I am a chocolate lover but can no longer tolerate it, unfortunately, so I look for carob options as a replacement. I really enjoy carob and find that it satisfies my chocolate cravings. I also try to eat a healthy diet and minimize toxins, so all of that combined makes it a bit challenging to find products that taste good and that are healthy.
In particular, finding protein bars that have a chocolatey flavor using carob, but do not have a bunch of sugar and junk in them has been rather challenging. There are a few of them out there, and some of them are really good. Unfortunately, the Rise ones are not very tasty. They are pretty dry, and there’s a weird sour type aftertaste. I did find them more palatable by putting a scoop of carob-hazelnut spread on top first, and that worked okay.

The flavor, with natural honey, is so much better than substitutes. We like the flavor, texture, calorie count, and protein content. It is not sticky! Each bar packs energy. Since the ingredients are all natural, the quality is 5 stars. No filling
