BariSlim multivitamins are convenient for bariatric patients who don’t need a whole lot of customized supplementation, such as band or VSG patients. The usual vitamins are included in the easy-to-swallow but fairly large (about 1 inch) pills, but in insufficient amounts for those of us with more invasive procedures (Duodenal switch, for example). Still, they are a good start… and even for DS patients can be the starting point around which the necessary additional supplementation can be built. I really like that they have copper, selenium and manganese — three minerals that are included in this multivitamin that meet my usual daily needs for those minerals. Of course, always check with your doctor, get those labs done and know your requirements before beginning any supplementation program. For many, these BariSlim multivitamins are the answer to your daily needs.

I had bariatric surgery about fifteen years ago, and still have to be careful to get enough supplements – particularly iron – in my diet. This vitamin works great for covering all those bases. It’s also the first bariatric-specific vitamin I’ve seen. Easy to swallow, nicely packaged. And, in my non-professional opinion, it looks good for non-bariatric patients too. I checked the ingredients of this vitamin against the ingredients in my regular multiple vitamins, and aside from a few variations for bariatric patients, it seems to be roughly the same lineup. One small nit: For roux-en-y gastric bypass patients like me, the elevated amount of B12 in this vitamin is useless, since B12 can only be absorbed sublingually or by injection after roux-en-y. So you may still need your B12 supplements. Still, highly recommended.

I’ll be honest, I’m not entirely sure what multivitamins are supposed to effectively do (I know it’s multiple vitamins… lol… but like in terms of its effect on my body) but I can say that I feel more energized when I take this. I don’t always remember to, but it’s got a lot of stuff in there, so if you’re deficient in a lot of areas like me, it’s worth it.

I got these as I was looking for a new vitamin that wasn’t a horse sized pill. When I saw this one I figured I would try it. While the pill size is definitely smaller, the vitamins and mineral amounts are a lot less than my previous ones. They are about the amounts of a normal multi vitamin. Definitely not for bariatric patients. I would have to take 4 of these to equal one of my other vitamins. I wouldn’t recommend these to a bariatric patient as they would have to take 4 pills to equal one pill of most other bariatric vitamins.

Synthetic vitamins and supplements are made from chemical compounds produced in a lab. They’re made to mimic the natural way the body absorbs nutrients from food. The body doesn’t as easily recognize synthetic vitamins therefore, it’s harder for the it to absorb and use them efficiently.
To figure out if your supplement is synthetic or natural always check the label. Natural supplements usually list food sources or are labeled as 100% plant or animal-based. Supplements that list nutrients individually, such as vitamin C, and use chemical names like ascorbic acid, are almost certainly synthetic.
This Vitamin & Supplement formula lists all the 22 vitamins and nutrients as ingredients it is consisting of, however, it also list all the chemical names of the vitamins. It is impossible to tell if it is a natural plant based supplement or synthetic. It does offer a wide variety of beneficial nutrients and vitamins, however they may have been produced in the lab.
With so many vitamins and nutrients in this complex, it is a very affordable choice at only $23 for 90 days supply. It also states it is domestically manufactured at Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility which is a system for ensuring that pharmaceutical products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards.
