This arrives in a non-childproof bottle that is protectively packaged under the cap and on the outside of the bottle. The July 2025 expiration date was well off into the future.
I like that these are made in the USA with non-GMO ingredients and that it doesn’t have other vitamins in it. I also like that it’s magnesium glycinate, which is what I’ve been taking. If you take the recommended dose, this will last 45 days and the daily cost would be about 38 cents at the current $16.99 price. I have another magnesium supplement to use first before trying these.

*I started taking this the day I received it, as I’ve been taking magnesium every day for years. Over the years I’ve taken several brands, capsules and tablets, so I have that experience to compare against these.
*I am having no negative side effects at all.
*These have no taste while taking, no after taste, and doesn’t cause burping or heartburn after taking.
*These are a little bigger than other capsules I’ve taken because the dose is a little higher.
*I prefer capsules over tablets, as the magnesium tablets I’ve taken are low dose compared to their size due to all the other ingredients needed to glue it together and hold its shape. Tablets are cheaper, but you end up having to take a higher quantity of pills in order to get the same dose amount.
*Good for heart, bones, muscles, blood sugar levels, and more, and the body requires a lot, so as I age my doctor recommended I take magnesium as a preventative.
*There are many forms of magnesium, and this form is one of the top 2 I see recommended, with this form – magnesium glycinate – being more expensive than the other (and more expensive than cheaper versions of magnesium). You’ll have to research for yourself which is best for you. Personally what I do, is instead of taking 2 of these, I take one of these and one of the magnesium citrates, for the best of both worlds.

Unfortunately, published data from reliable sources seldom agree when it comes to magnesium (Mg) requirements for humans — Daily Values (DV), Recommended Daily Allowances (RDA), and/or upper limits (UL). Adding to the confusion is that these sources usually do not specify whether their numbers are referencing supplemented Mg quantities or total intake from all sources or whether they specifically refer to ELEMENTAL Mg or not. For magnesium, Harvard lists a DV of 310-420mg, depending on age and sex but they list a UL of 350mg from supplements alone. The American Academy of Family Practitioners states that 350mg UL is for ELEMENTAL Mg.
The labelling on this American Standard Supplements Magnesium Glycinate (asin=B0BK3HH3GH) states there are 575mg of Mg from magnesium glycinate in the two-capsule serving. Only if you go to American Standard Supplements website will you see them list that as ELEMENTAL magnesium. However, online sources state magnesium glycinate is 14% ELEMENTAL magnesium and 14% of the 575mg would equal 80mg of ELEMENTAL magnesium.
To really try to figure this out, I emptied out two capsules and weighed them on my milligram scale. Total mass for the powder in 2 capsules was 1766mg. Assuming it was all magnesium glycinate (and it’s not, according to the list of “other ingredients”), 14% of 1766 comes out to an ELEMENTAL Mg content of 247mg.
So, my investigation using numbers from trusted online sources in addition to those listed on this product leads me to 3 different quantities for the amount of ELEMENTAL Mg in two of these capsules — 575mg, 80mg, or 247mg.
I NEED a magnesium supplement for bone growth. I WANT one in the 200+mg range for ELEMENTAL Mg. I seriously doubt this product has 575mg worth, but I would sure like to know whether the 80mg or 247mg is closer to the truth. Another magnesium glycinate product available on Amazon (ASIN = B0C8DMMYTC) specifically states content of 70mg as the amount of ELEMENTAL Mg in their 500mg capsule of magnesium glycinate.
I cannot make a valid comparison regarding cost of this product versus another unless the seller provides more accurate information on the bottle, on their website, on the Amazon listing, or in reply to this posting.
[*** 3-13-24 edit ***] I just learned of a 2023 class action lawsuit against the Qunol brand for magnesium glycinate capsules whereby the plaintiffs are asserting the exact same claims as my review questions in the above paragraphs. The FDA requires that the amount listed on the “Supplemental Facts” label reports the ELEMENTAL amount of magnesium — not the total amount of magnesium glycinate (or other compounds). You can easily do a Google search for the details of this lawsuit.
*** 3-13-24 edit #2 *** This seller now includes additional numbers on the “Supplemental Facts” label in addition to naming the product magnesium glycinate “chelate.” Once again, however, the 1400mg listed for magnesium glycinate chelate should yield only 196mg of ELEMENTAL magnesium (14% of 1400).

I was recently in the ER. One of the things they found was that I was extremely low on magnesium. The doctor said it is pretty common. It was unrelated to why I was there, but I ended up getting intravenous magnesium before I left. They told me to take more magnesium each day, so here I am.
I’ve been taking magnesium glycinate as it’s easier for the body to assimilate and less gastrointestinal side effects. This is a nice dosage in each pill. Keep in mind that the serving size to get 575mg is 2 pills. This is common with magnesium supplements that the serving size is multiple pills.
I really appreciate that this brand tells you the net amount of elemental magnesium you get out of the magnesium glycinate. Not all brands do.
I’m taking these toward the end of the day. It’s known that calcium and magnesium together can help people relax in order to sleep.

This is a chelated magnesium glycinate, 575 mg, which is apparently the best kind. I use magnesium primarily for leg cramps. I haven’t had any since i have been taking this brand. That may or may not be causal. The capsules are large and a little hard to swallow. I think the price is a little high. But overall these are effective magnesium.
