I’ve been using this ALOCANE gel for a bit now, mainly for some itchy spots that have been driving me crazy post-arm surgery. The gel itself has a smooth, almost silky texture that goes on easily and feels nice on the skin. It doesn’t leave a greasy feeling, which is a big plus for me. I don’t think I’ve seen a huge difference in the scars just yet, but I’m staying consistent with it and I’m hoping for some improvement over time. The scent is subtle, kind of floral, which I’m really happy about since it doesn’t smell like onion at all despite the onion bulb ingredient—phew!
As for the itch relief, I do feel some soothing, though it’s not instant. I feel like it’s been great for calming down those irritating deep spots and helping with the scarring that came from all the scratching. I’ve heard some people get faster results, but I’m just glad to have something that feels good on my skin and is helping along the way, no irritation is huge for my sensitive skin. The tube could definitely be bigger, but I’ll definitely grab more when this one runs out!
Did not relieve any pain or itching at all and also, it is so expensive. The tube is so tiny!
I will stick with the Alocane max emergency burn gel which also works for itching. I keep it in the fridge for more soothing, cooling comfort.
This cream is very silky and you can apply it easily over any scar. It somewhat stops the itch a little, but not too much. Then again my scar was/is huge! Feels good when on. I can’t say I’ve noticed a difference in my scar but my boyfriend says it’s getting better. I will continue to use only because it’s so silky that it feels good when applying it.
Alocane is a good brand, whose products are carried in many pharmacies, so I decided to give their Advanced Scar and Itch Relief Gel a try.
The product comes in standard box with lots of information and directions. (I included photos since the product description only shows a portion of the packaging.) The tube has a snap lid cap, which need to be unscrewed first in order to remove the foil safety seal.
The gel itself is a milky color (see pic). With the main ingredient being “onion bulb”, going into this I was a little concerned about the odor. I can assure you, there is no onion smell! The odor is actually quite pleasant. So I have no concerns about walking around smelling like a deli.
All in all, this was a good buy. Two minor complaints though:
1) I was unable to locate an expiration date on the box or tube. And when I scanned the QR code to visit the Alocane website to see if I could find information about shelf life, I discovered that this product isn’t listed anywhere on the site. In fact, I couldn’t find the product listed anywhere on the internet. So I’m guessing that it’s a brand new product? If so, hopefully Alocane will address the expiration date omission.
2) The product description says this is a “non-greasy formula”. It is absolutely greasy — almost like Vaseline. You will need to wash your hands very well after applying this.
I was hoping it would help my itch a bit more but it was pretty okay.
This arrived from the vendor in a fairly beat up product box as that is how they provided it. We’ve used this for various little itching spots & it does seem to help with those spots itching. The product is easy enough to get out in small amounts & work into the skin. It didn’t stay noticeable by other people you’d put something on your skin, & it did not cause clothing that touched any treated spots to get stained or wick thru.
I tried this ALOCANE Advanced Scar and Itch Relief Gel on my post-brain surgery scar (for trigeminal neuralgia). One thing I would caution is to be careful using it on a wound that isn’t completely healed yet. I applied it to my scar a bit too soon, and it did cause some irritation. So, it’s probably best to wait until your skin has fully closed and healed before applying this.
Because of the irritation I experienced, I had to stop using it, so I can’t really comment on how well it works for reducing scars or soothing itchiness in the long run. It does have ingredients like onion bulb extract and silicone, which are supposed to help with scar appearance, and aloe vera for healing. It also mentions ingredients for soothing itch.
Just based on my experience, I’d recommend being patient and making sure your wound is fully closed before trying this, to avoid any potential irritation. I can’t speak to its effectiveness on scars or itching beyond that initial reaction.
With anything I am putting in or on my body I want to know where it is made, i.e. is it from USA where presumably it’s under the guidelines of the F.D.A. or is it from China, and could potentially have anything in it? There is zero information on where this is made-which makes me think it is the latter. Companies will try to get by with saying a product is ‘distributed by’, and have a domestic address, but that is not the same thing as where it is made.
So that being said, I am reluctant to keep slathering on this gel over a surgical site without knowing that info. I will say it is a silicone gel that is heavy and similar to anti-chafe gels, if you have used them (or even have used makeup primer like Smashbox that is mostly silicones.) There isn’t an onion smell, and it isn’t sticky. It is kind of like a dry Vaseline. It didn’t cause any weird reaction, however I would rather find a product from a more transparent company to use.
