I decided to try this as recent studies have shown something quite remarkable about how levels of this substance in our blood correlate with the incidence and severity of all types of depression. In mice studies, not only did they find that the severity of depression was directly related to the severity of deficiency of this nutrient, but that administering this nutrient resulted in a complete reversal of depression related behaviors. In humans, it has been shown that there is a direct correlation between the severity of deficiency and severity of depression, with the lowest levels being associated with depression unresponsive to medicine. I expect more studies to be forth coming.
Like a lot of people, I find the holidays are a time when many people experience some level of depression. Living in the northern hemisphere doesn’t help for many either, causing seasonal affective disorder (SAD). I’m no exception. But given there is such a strong correlation between deficiency of this nutrient and all forms of depression, I thought I would give it a try.

In any case this is a high quality product, and it’s just what I was looking for– even slightly better priced than the other supplier I had purchased from previously. I wanted to get as much ALCAR as I could in as few capsules as possible, with no other extra ingredients. I also wanted to make sure the product was genuine, so I opened up a few capsules and tasted the product myself and, sure enough, the characteristic citrus flavor of ALCAR came through. Not only that, but I can feel its effects. It’s great for the brain and all sorts of other health benefits can be enjoyed from this supplement– so I’m glad I found a supplier that is trustworthy at a very good price. It’s great for vegetarians like myself who wouldn’t get very much of this amino acid naturally from our diets. It’s also great for weight lifters and people who are into nootropics.

R lipoic Acid is a powerful antioxidant, “‘the antioxidant’s antioxidant.’ This remarkable fatty acid is not only a potent antioxidant in its own right but serves as the linchpin in the body’s antioxidant network by regenerating the other major antioxidants. By far the most important of these…is glutathione (which cannot be taken as a supplement because it’s destroyed in the digestive tract). Glutathione is the mitochondria’s number one defender, and lipoic acid is glutathione’s number one regenerator.”

I tried this brand of ALC after trying Doctors Best. I feel like this one is more effective as far as mood enhancement and short term memory. I’m 57 and more concerned with brain health these days.

I started off taking one pill in the morning and then another in the afternoon before exercising lightly but after about 4 days I went straight to taking 2 pills first thing in the morning and that is working perfectly.
