My husband has been taking Puritan’s Pride 5-HTP 200 mg daily for one month on the recommendation of our family doctor. He has been having trouble sleeping despite taking up to 10 mg of Melatonin per night and making other situational adjustments.
After taking 200-400 mg of this 5-HTP supplement per night for a month he feels like his sleep is much improved and his mood is “lighter”. He is not noticing any side effects and asked me to sign him up for Subscribe and Save.
The reason I chose this product for him was that it was a higher dose (200 mg per capsule) and a brand I trust which is sold at a reasonable price.
He’s had such good success with it I’m considering taking it. I’ve been off anti-depressants for about two months now after taking them for about 3 years. Love these. Used to take Tylenol PM and other OTC sleep meds. Nothing worked as well as 5-htP and plus there is no morning grogginess! I’m a believer!

I started with 1 pill, after a week, went to two (200 mg) then maxed out at 3 (300mg) a night at bedtime. I’ve read the research and it says you may need up to 700mg. That can get pretty expensive.
I have major sleep issues. I’m ADHD, GAD, PTSD, and depressive. I don’t really notice any difference but I’m about to run out. I guess I’ll find out one way. But as of right now I can’t say great or not. May as well eat a taco for all the difference it makes.

It really helped with the mood and the sense of calmness. I can’t say that it helped with the sleep. I felt the same and I’m still struggling. It’s almost 3am writing this review and well .. yeah it didn’t do much for my problem with sleeping.

Works great instead of prescription anti-depressants with really no side effects. Just make sure to eat before taking, it could make your tummy a little upset.

I use 5-HTP for help with my bipolar 1 disorder and chronic anxiety that also helps with sleep.
I use 5-HTP along with GABA, theanine, taurine, tyrosine, DHEA, Kava Kava, SAMe, and Ashwagandha to help with my mood fluctuations. I am still working on the best combination but it is a much better alternative to prescription medication and their side effects.
Diet is also a factor but in the end evaluation, it is working.
