Eating one of these is like eating an Altoid. It’s so strong it’s nauseating. I have to swallow these with water or something because I can’t chew them. Will not buy again.

I’ve tried several other brands of melatonin, but this is the first one that I haven’t had a reaction to. The lozenges are delicious and effective. I love the peppermint flavor. The peppermint flavor makes this an ideal nighttime snack. This is great for anyone who has trouble with sleep and doesn’t like the taste of other melatonin supplements. I highly recommend this product.

I keep these melatonin lozenges on hand for those nights when I have a hard time shutting my brain off. With work, family, and everything else going on, sometimes my mind just won’t quiet down when I try to sleep. I like that these are only 1mg of melatonin. It’s a low enough dose that I don’t wake up feeling groggy, but it’s definitely effective in helping me relax and fall asleep faster.
The peppermint flavor is subtle and refreshing, much better than swallowing a pill! And I like that this is the 365 brand from Whole Foods. It’s a brand I trust, and the price is usually pretty reasonable.
It’s a gentle and effective sleep aid to use occasionally, I’d definitely recommend giving these a try.

I like the dosage amount and the format of these 365 1mg peppermint melatonin lozenges. These are not sweetened but they do contain the ingredient xylitol (for those who are concerned with such things). 1mg is a mighty small dosage, but there is a place in my life for these and that’s when I wake up in the middle of the night and just want a micro-dose to help me grab that last hour or two of sleep – taking too much melatonin at 3am leaves me too groggy and inclined to sleep in way past my waking time. These have a pleasant flavor and of course you can always adjust your dosage by taking another – I have a tendency to “nibble” at a larger 5mg strawberry tablet but that gets messy on my nightstand, as those larger dosage chewable tablets tend to crumble and disintegrate if you try partitioning them off into smaller dosages. These work well and the price seems fair for a generous 120 doses. Recommended.

I personally prefer the 1 mg Melatonin. It is the perfect dose for me and doesn’t make me groggy int he morning. I like the idea of an under-the-tongue lozenge that melts and it also tastes really good.
The price point is fair and affordable. I recommend this product.

So I have been taking extended release tablets for years as a way to ease into sleep and avoid a wake up after it wears off. I was skeptical that the 1mg tablets would work for me because in the past I would take the low dose, get sleepy and then wake right back up. These lozenges are working pretty darn well! I think the magic is that they are lozenges and they are slowly dissolving in your mouth so I am getting a more gradual trickle of the drug in my system. I like also that these are Whole Foods brand, which is generally a brand name that I trust. The lozenges are unsweetened and, even though I am sensitive to artificial sweeteners, the xylitol does not irritate my stomach. The only thing I don’t love about the supplement is the peppermint flavor, but it is not a deal breaker.

The packaging of this product was excellent, as one would expect from any Whole Foods Market product. There are 120 pills that are peppermint flavored and meant to be taken as a lozenge. As you can see in the photo, they’re about half the size of a Tic Tac. The bottle is not child resistant, so of course keep it away from children.
I grew up in the era when “sleeping pills” got a really bad stigma, for good reasons. I hadn’t even considered melatonin until my cousin (who’s a brilliant neurologist) told me she takes it on long flights to help her sleep. Generally speaking, you should try to get your body to produce the melatonin hormone naturally by maintaining a consistent sleep schedule. But in exceptional cases (like long plane rides or jetlag), it can be a useful way to give your body an extra “slow me down”.
While melatonin is considered a dietary supplement and is not regulated in the same way that pharmaceuticals are, I’d still recommend reading the label carefully and checking with your doctor before using it.
The one thing I wish was that they were a little more transparent in their sourcing. While the Amazon product page says that it’s “made in the USA”, I would have loved to know a little more about where and how they extract their melatonin. From my own research, regardless of the “made in” label, the raw materials can come from the USA or China, or can be synthetic or derived from cow pineal glands. It’d be nice if supplement manufacturers could be more upfront with this information rather obfuscating these details.
But overall it looks like a well-produced product.
