They work great but they smell funky even after washing

These were great… for a minute. Definitely feeling like I was sandpapering my dead skin off. It didn’t hurt or cause open wounds or anything, but it’s not for people that have sensitive skin, that’s for sure!
I used without soap, as research I’ve done said that soap can act as a lubricant that makes it more challenging to exfoliate properly.
After exfoliating, I did soap and rinse the mitt so that it was “clean” and hung it in my shower to dry.
During my next shower, I noticed that the mitt has weird orange stains subtly all over it and smelled kinda funky. Like… rust? I bravely just used it, again, anyway… hoping it doesn’t cause my skin any issues. I cleaned and rinsed the mitt again. Next shower, this thing was visibly disgusting with the orange stains even more apparent and it smelling terribly (still like a rust smell?) I have never had a loofah, wash cloth, or any other bathing product do this. I like investigating things to figure out what went wrong so I checked the other mitt that I gave to my daughter (different soap, different bathroom, probably less cleaning to the thing after being used), and it looked and smelled exactly the same.
Both mitts are now in the trash and maybe should have been in some type of hazardous waste bin, perhaps. I’d highly recommend staying away from these.
