Research shows that taking a product containing lutein and zeaxanthin can reverse damage in the center of the retina in people who have macular degeneration. This disease runs in my family, so my eye doctor has recommended I add these supplements to my daily diet as a preventative measure.
Lutein and zeaxanthin are found in the retina and lens, where they may act as natural antioxidants and help absorb damaging, high-energy blue and ultraviolet light.
These capsules contain both lutein. and zeaxanthin, plus the antioxident astaxanthin. I do like that the manufacturer discloses the actual amount of ingredients in each serving. Too many companies say only “proprietary blend”, leaving the consumer to try and figure out what dose they are getting.
These are medium-size softgels and easy to swallow. A full serving is one softgel, so a 2 month supply. At the time of my review, this works out to a little over fifty cents per day, a competitive value.

I have been taking products by Nordic Naturals for several years. The quality of their products can’t be beat. I was eager to try their Blue light eye defense as I have already been taking similar products from other brands. What I like about this product is that 1 capsule is a serving so this bottle is a 2 month supply. Often products of this type recommend 2 capsules which are more pills and is misleading to the consumer who thinks they are getting more than they really are. Another good thing about this product is that it doesn’t have all the other vitamins (C,A, E) or trace amount of zinc and copper. As you may be double dosing if you are already taking a daily multipurpose vitamin, too. I also like that it includes astaxanthin but I just wish it included at least a 4 mg dose per serving instead of 2 mg.
This is a well thought out blend, that is easy to swallow and quality made.

This seems to be a very well formulated supplement for the support of vision. I was interested in adding this to the supplements I already take because I do spend a lot of time in front of a computer and I would like to limit the potential for damage to my eyesight from blue light. There is a history of eye problems in my family, so I am trying to take steps to improve my own eye health. I alternate this supplement with two other supplements designed to support the retina and macula. I like that the formula contains meso-zeaxanthin and astaxanthin in addition to the more conventional lutein and zeaxanthin and there is a reasonable dose of each. I also appreciate that I only need to take one capsule per day, as I am already taking several other supplements, and I’d like to keep the number of pills as low as possible. This seems like a relatively pricey supplement at first, but since it is a 60 day supply and many of the other supplements I have are only a 30 day supply, this turned out to be more economical than I realized. I am familiar with Nordic Naturals and consider it to be a reputable brand, which is an important consideration for me when shopping for supplements. The current price of this supplement is $35.66. The capsules are fairly small and look a little bit like licorice jelly beans, maybe a bit plumper and are easy for me to get down. The bottle arrived properly sealed.

In my opinion, this is one of those supplements to start taking even before you have any issues. And keep taking it.
I’m a diabetic with macular degeneration. My mother had diabetic retinopathy, although no one can figure out how I got macular degeneration, and so early in my life. Being well familiar with eye supplements, this is a great combination for eye health and preventative care.
I feel that it’s going to help keep my eyes going as best they can.

This is a pretty good supplement of four ingredients that really help your eyes. I have been fighting off age-related macular degeneration (AMD) for a while now. I have found these substances are the ones that do the most for you other than a well balanced nutritional diet. For those of us who do not regularly have a good diet we have to supplement it with formulas like these. People who are in front of a computer screen all day at work or have an outside job will find that this supplement can help keep their eyes protected and functioning better. There are some other benefits besides protecting your eyes and keeping cataracts away that this formula helps with like: cognitive function and general brain health, improved skin and cardiovascular system. I like that this supplement is third party tested and that it is non-GMO. The softgels themselves are a little larger that my other softgels and they have a slight odor. They go down fine though. If you happen to taste them when swallowing you’ll find them kind of sweet but no other real taste. I like that the softgel is made of some natural ingredients. I know that in order to get the ingredients flowing you have to suspend them in something. I appreciate the olive oil but I really do not need the sunflower or safflower oils or the beeswax. The rest of the ingredients are not a problem for me. I have found when taking this supplement that my eyes are stronger. They can see better without squinting so much. Focusing is easier. Though the price seems a little high the bottle has a two month’s supply in it. If you have the funds I recommend this supplement to add to the others you take on a regular basis.
