I greatly appreciate that this is encapsulated versus a powder. I initially began taking HMB last fall to help offset sarcopenia when my weight got down to the point it kinda freaked me out. However, even strong coffee with other additives could not mask its horrid bitter flavor. These solve that issue. As it turned out, being 5’11” and weighing around 160 lbs fully clothed, my primary care MD told me my BMI is ‘normal’.
Curiously, another MD suggested being 20 lbs heavier would be beneficial if anything happened to put me in a hospital, where having some extra weight to begin with often offsets the less-than-optimal diet most hospitals provide.

I got this because there are many studies indicating that HMB might help me in reducing muscle loss and keeping the gains I get from exercise. The studies are not conclusive however and there are a few studies where no improvement was noticed. At this time it is known that role of HMB in skeletal muscle wasting is not very well understood. There are however those who take it and report benefitting from it but I personally never have noticed anything. However I take 12 grams daily of collagen daily which contains the amino acid Leucine which is what HMB comes from. But it is only thought about 5% ( of the Leucine) may convert to HMB. So I like to take additional HMB to get a total around 3 grams on my exercise days and about 1 gram on my rest days. And when I say I do not notice anything I should mention muscle loss is not something I have noticed either so perhaps I am benefitting. It is my hope that studies will confirm that it does in fact help with reducing muscle wasting especially in older individuals and that when I exercise I am not losing any of my benefits that I may gain. Nutricost brand is just perfect IMO for this as it’s a low cost way to get HMB in the amounts I want without spending a fortune on this supplement that may or may not prove to be beneficial. IMO I would be hard pressed to think HMB has absolutely no benefits. Especially considering it is involved with protein synthesis and reducing protein degradation. And thankfully there appears to be little or no sides with HMB even at large doses. I like the dosage this brand has with three caps being 1500 mgs or 1.5 grams. This also appears to be third party lab tested. This brand states it is third party tested but also states each batch is thoroughly tested by ISO accredited laboratories for purity, potency and safety. On my exercise days I split my dosage for before and after my workouts. I had no sides and these were easy to take. Good Luck and I hope this was Helpful.

I take a number of supplements daily so it’s hard to evaluate any one particular supplement for its effectiveness.
These are about as easy to take as any other similar capsules and have no taste or side effects that I can identify so that’s good.
I wish I could say that there is an obvious benefit but it’s just not that simple. So I will say that if this is something you want to take it’s probably worth a try.

I’m a big fan of Nutricost’s HMB supplement, especially as a CrossFit enthusiast. 🏋️♂️ While it’s hard to be 100% certain about supplement effects, I’m pretty confident that HMB has improved my recovery times. I hit CrossFit about 5 times a week, so I can really tell when my body is getting the nutrients it needs. Since starting HMB, I’ve noticed I’m bouncing back from intense workouts more quickly. If you’re into high-intensity training and looking for something to potentially enhance your recovery, I’d recommend giving this a try. As always with Nutricost, the quality is top-notch and the price is reasonable.

I’ve been noticing as I age my muscle mass seems to be declining. I couldn’t tell whether or not taking these for 20 days helped me at all, but I didn’t have any noticeable ill effects from it either. Perhaps I needed to take it longer to potentially see more signs. The price seems reasonable, and I’m willing to reorder if I could tell its worthwhile.

I read that creatine together with HMB may have a synergistic effect and while it may, it was imperceptible to me. I would like to have taken it over a longer course but cannot justify the expense vs the results.
