I’m a big fan of collagen peptides, and have been adding a popular powder form to my coffee fairly regularly for a long time. That stuff has 20g of collagen in 3 tablespoons. 20g is 20,000mg right? These caps have 1,800 mg (1.8g) in 3 capsules.
Now after reading up a bit, it seems 2g/day may have some benefits to skin and nails. It takes > 5g/day to have benefits to bone density. It’s entirely possible that a) my powder has more than I need and b) these capsules don’t have enough. I switched over to these capsules to see if there’s a difference. Collagen takes a while to “work” (weeks not days) and I haven’t noticed any measurable difference near the end of this bottle. So it’s undecided but I’ll give benefit of doubt here.
I like the idea they have 5 different types of collagen not just bovine. Maybe that makes up for the smaller quantity. Assuming this small daily dose is beneficial these are a steal. And the pills are much easier to ingest than the sometimes-nasty protein powders.

It’s getting harder to just get what I want without all the extra added ingredients in any supplement.
This product provides all the collagen types I want and none of the stuff that might put me over the top as I take a daily multivitamin. Some studies suggest if you take vitamin C with collagen, it will increase absorption and that is why often you see Vitamin C added – so I am taking this collagen with my daily multi that already has vitamin C.
This product is a thirty day supply if you take the 3 recommended capsules for 1800 mg of collagen. I’m taking two for 1200 mg of collagen and it will last me 45 days – that’s a good deal and good price point for this product, as compared with others.
These have a very slight fish smell from the marine collagen but the capsules have no taste and zero aftertaste of fishiness.
The quality is awesome as these are made in an GMP and FDA registered facility – that means they are subject to random audits – and the product is lab tested and made in the USA. The bottle I received shows an expiration in about a year and a half. There is a phone number on the bottle, website, and address in case you need support – that usually tells me the product is legit.

These pills seem to weigh in around 800mg. A serving size of 3 capsules is supposed to deliver 1800mg of collagen, meaning 600mg per pill. That leaves 200mg for filler ingredients.
I cut open one capsule and it tasted a lot like chicken. I cut open a separate capsule and it tasted a bit more like beef. Kind of an interesting mixture of ingredients with chicken / beef / fish and egg shell collagens. The flavor was not at all unpleasant and seems like it is probably fairly good quality, though because it is dehydrated it doesn’t have a great tongue feel.
It seems like the amount of filler may be a bit high in this product given the capsule itself is so lightweight it doesn’t even register on my scale. The product itself seems like it is probably of good quality though.

I’ve taken collegan several different ways, this is pill form. I will say the pill is rather big if you have a hard time with pills. You can open the capsule and put the contents into a drink or food but I’m not sure how it would taste.

I have osteopenia so taking things like collagen is really important for strong bones. Although by far the best thing for strong bones is exercising regularly.
I ordered these collagen supplements because you can just throw them in with your other pills, and easily take them anywhere. They are easy to swallow.
Previous to this, I was taking a collagen powder where you take a scoop of collagen and mix it with any liquid.
So, I ordered these while looking for something that I could just swallow along with my other supplements. These are great for that purpose.
I am also impressed that this product is manufactured and lab tested in the USA.

As far as the quantity of collagen per serving, the 2 kinds vary greatly. Of course taking a 1 ounce scoop of something, compared to taking 3 pills a day (the serving size per day for this Vital J Collagen Product is 3 pills per day so that 90 pills in the bottle here is a 1 month supply) will make a substantial difference in the amount of collagen ingested.
As far as price is concerned, for the quantity of servings, the powdered collagen is much less expensive than the pill form here.
That said, many, many people will choose to ingest collagen in the pill form here compared to mixing it into a liquid. People are very busy doing so many things that sometimes convenience is far more important than what is the best deal. This pill form from a company whose product looks excellent in the ads here may be the best choice for you because you will decide to follow through with the effort necessary to take this consistently for your health.
