I’ve been taking Meriva Curcumin of another brand for a number of years and attribute it to overall wellness into my retirement years. I thought I’d try another brand, just to see if I’d realize any difference.
My other brand recommended twice the dose as this brand. So taking this brand at the same dose as my usual emptied this bottle much faster than expected. The capsules were significantly larger than that other brand I’d been taking and so I found my daily compartments in my weekly pill strips were a bit crowded. I noted no difference in well being while taking this brand. These seem to do the job, but at a higher price point and larger capsule size. Comparison concluded. I’m going back to my usual brand.

I’ve taken a few different brands of curcumin in the past and this is one of the better ones I’ve tried. Each dose is large at 500mg per capsule, but the capsule itself doesn’t feel that large and is easy to swallow. Other brands I’ve tried might have 2 or 3 capsules you have to take to get to a similar curcumin dose.
These are tasteless and I haven’t noticed any opened capsules in the bottle I’ve been using. I haven’t experienced any GI issues even when taking this on an empty stomach.

Meriva has been thoroughly proven by literally dozens of clinical trials (over 40), with new ones recently published. It is the most scientifically proven turmeric extract supplement currently on the market.
It is formulated differently from the 95% curcumin versions another reviewer referred to, which used to be considered the ‘gold standard’, but it may no longer be as newer technologies and formulations have proven to have FAR better absorption and/or to remain detectable in the blood for up to 24 hours. That’s truly exceptional as we humans metabolize curcumin so quickly one would need to take more than 3 doses per day to achieve similar blood levels.
AS far as I know, Meriva is unique in that it is standardized for all 3 of the major bioactive constituents in the same proportions at they naturally occur in the roots. Other brands and forms are standardized only for ‘curcumin’, which was one misses out on potential benefits the other 2 molecules may impart. It would seem the ’entourage effect’ of consuming all bioactive curcuminoids at once versus only ‘curcumin’ (the major curcuminoid) would be more beneficial in supporting health and wellness. Curcuminoids have been studied extensively and have myriad benefits for humans, from anti-inflammatory activity to diminishing angiogenesis by tumors. It’s even been proven to cross the blood brain barrier, with positive results for the brain. The only better forms I know of at this point are in liquid filled capsules. Vendors of those products claim their version stays in the blood 24 hours or more!

Great brand name ingredients, with Meriva being better than 90% of the curcumin out there. Cucumin can be a very tricky ingredient and most people end up with supplements that don’t do much of anything at all, as I understand. And I say tricky, because even here, with the reputable Meriva brand of curcumin, I see that it’s an extract, but I don’t see the key number for that extract… and that key number is, 95%. All of the significant laboratory studies, last I looked, are always done with curcumin, standardized to a 95% extract. To me, this is the bare minimum standard I will accept, and that’s because of what I’ve read and know about curcumin. Most curcumin on the market, as I understand, is practically junk, it’s nothing but crushed up plant material, no standardized extract.. And once you realize all the studies that show beneficial health results, are all done with 95% extract, and you know that’s what to look for…. many brands will try to fool you into thinking their brand is 95% extract… but in reality, only a very small portion of the curcumin within, is that. They do this by having some actual 95% extract material in the formula, but if you look closer, it’ll only be a mere 50 or 100 mg’s, of the 95% extract, with the rest of the curcumin, being nothing but crushed plant material ….. you want the entire curcumin amount, to be 95% extract, in other words.
Now, this brand here, with it’s 2 key branded ingredients, says 1 capsule a day… great, follow the directions on the bottle… but I certainly won’t, I will take 3 capsules a day, if I can help it, 8 hours apart, and even that is not ideal, even with the good 95% extract form… which I’m assuming Meriva is a 95% extract, although it’s strange they don’t state this on the label, so I don’t know. Here’s the problem, with 1 capsule per day, in my opinion. Even the good 95% extract stuff, that’s used in all the studies… guess how long it stays in the blood stream? Approximately 2-3 hours….. and with non standardized plant material curcumin, it goes even quicker, as I understand it.
So the 95% extract, will only get you 2-3 hours of bloodstream activity. I use another branded form of curcumin 95% extract, that’s been clinically shown to stay in the blood, for up to 6-8 hours…but that’s the exception. So anyway, telling me to take only capsule per day here, to me means, I’ll only have the stuff in my system, for a very few hours.
It’s not recommended to mention other name brands when writing a review, but I would like to slide in a few capital letters and a couple of numerals, just for fun. The letters being, BCM, and the numerals being, 95. Now join the letters with the numbers, with a dash in the middle, and you might have a bingo. This Meriva curcumin formula here, is an excellent, high quality, curcumin nutritional supplement formula, with 2 top name, branded, ingredients, and it’s made in the USA. Great product.
