Almost twenty years ago, my doctor (GP) at the time recommended I start taking NAC (N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine) for my asthma. She shared a naturopathic article where nebulized glutathione had been shown to aid in the treatment of COPD. She started me on 1800 mg per day. I have been taking it ever since, sometimes missing a dose and getting only 900 mg that day, sometimes taking more when in severe oxidative distress due to a respiratory infection. Initially concerned about toxicity ingesting so much during a cold, I was reassured to discover that NAC is the naturopath treatment of choice for acetaminophen (Tylenol) overdose.
To avoid stomach upset, I take this with at least a small amount of food. When my lungs are congested or asthmatically stressed, taking this has eased my symptoms within 30-45 mins. Please note. “Your mileage may vary.” And when starting to take any new supplement or medication, be aware of any adverse reaction. Keep your doctor informed as to any supplements you take – many interact with commonly prescribed medicines.

Unfortunately, the company has recently made a significant change that has negatively impacted customer perception:
– Shift from glass to plastic bottles

The switch to plastic packaging has raised several issues for me:
1. **Safety**: While the plastic used is presumed safe, there are lingering doubts about its long-term effects, especially considering varying shipping conditions and ambient temperatures.
2. **Environmental Impact**: Glass is generally considered more eco-friendly and recyclable compared to plastic.
3. **Perceived Value**: The premium price point of the product was partly justified by the use of glass packaging, which conveyed a sense of high quality and safety. With plastic, this perception diminishes.
**Conclusion**
The decision to switch from glass to plastic bottles has resulted in a perceived downgrade in product quality. For customers like myself who were willing to pay a premium price for a superior product, this change is seen as a reduction in value. The shift not only impacts the perceived quality but also raises concerns about potential long-term safety issues related to plastic packaging.
This packaging change will lead me as a customer to reconsider my loyalty to the brand, especially given the premium price point of the product. Designs for Health may need to address these concerns to maintain customer satisfaction and justify their pricing strategy in light of this packaging downgrade.
