I am very pleased with this antiperspirant/deodorant, but am somewhat on the fence about continuing to use it after I finish up with this tube. First the good: it is fragrance/scent free, perfect for sensitive skin (no redness or rash whatsoever!), it’s made by Vanicream (which is one of the few companies that makes lotion that I can use with my very unpredictable skin conditions), and it glides on smoothly and without a bunch of mess (no white streaks on clothing!) Now the not so good: your skin must be COMPLETELY dry to put it on (otherwise the stick gets weird and gummy and you can’t put it on at all without wiping it and yourself completely dry; I’ve never experienced anything like this with any other deodorant). Also, even though this says it’s a “clinical” strength, it barely reaches a passable strength protection for me, and since it is fragrance and scent free that means the stink comes on full force when this starts wearing off. That’s rather off putting. I DO like this better than some other brands I’ve tried, but it’s also much more expensive, so I may not continue. I have to think about it some more. Overall though, I would recommend this antiperspirant/deodorant, particularly if you have very sensitive skin that reacts to a lot of other brands.

I originally bought this for my preteen with severe eczema but later bought for myself as well because I was experiencing some contact reactions to scented deodorant. This deodorant has not irritated either of our skin and my underarm rash has cleared. This is not scented but works pretty well at keeping you from sweeting.

I have been on the hunt for a quality hypoallergenic antiperspirant/deodorant for several years now since developing allergic contact dermatitis to many common ingredients. What I have learned is that there is no product that checks all the boxes: allergen-free, sweat reducing, odor blocking, non-marking/non-messy, affordable.
With that said, the Vanicream stick checks 3 of the 5 boxes, which is the most out of any I’ve tried thus far. It’s hypoallergenic and is the best at sweat AND odor blocking out of all the “safe for me” deodorants I have tried. Most other products are only good at sweat OR odor control, and I live in the desert where both are definitely necessary. On the flip side, the product does pill up quite a bit after minor sweating to the point where I would feel self conscious about it if going out in a tank top. Also, at $10 a stick, while cheaper than some of the others, it’s still not a great price point. I will continue to try new products, but this will probably be my new main at least until the temps fall below 100 and I can get away with using something less effective but cleaner.
For anyone else out there struggling to find a good product, here are mini-reviews of the other products I have tried:
-Native Lavender & Rose Paraben-Free Aluminum-Free Deodorant (2/5 stars): Cons: I didn’t smell like BO but I didn’t smell like lavender and roses either. Aluminum-free so there was no sweat control. Expensive. Pros: didn’t make a mess, allergen-free (for me, lavender is ok)
-Dry Idea AdvancedDry Unscented Antiperspirant & Deodorant Clear Gel (0/5 stars) : Cons: I still got pretty sweaty with this one, not a big fan of the gel. Pros: Cheap, goes on clean, ok odor-blocking. 0 out of 5 stars because they abruptly changed the formula to include fragrance yet still mark it as “hypoallergenic/unscented,” which is shady AF. Always check the label every time you buy, even if it’s a product you’ve used before!
-Acure Lavender & Coconut Deodorant (3/5 stars): Cons: basically the same as Native – no sweat control, slightly better odor control, but a little messier. Pros: cheaper than Native, allergen-free (for me, lavender is ok)
-Each & Every Natural Aluminum-Free Deodorant, Unscented (3/5 stars): Cons: No sweat control, expensive. Pros: Actually has pretty decent odor control without added scents, goes on clean, allergen-free. This could be a main for me in the winter.
-Speed Stick Antiperspirant & Deodorant Solid, Unscented (3/5 stars): Cons: I was surprised at how sweaty I got with this antiperspirant. Have to reapply at least once during the day. Pros: Cheap, goes on clean, ok odor control, allergen-free. This could be a main for me in the winter.
-Almay Sensitive Skin Clear Gel Antiperspirant & Deodorant, Fragrance-Free (0/5 stars): This product made such a sticky mess of my underarms that I couldn’t leave it on long enough to evaluate its effectiveness.

I was buying this deodorant as someone who is looking for lower toxins, who also deals with a lot of sweating and BO. When I discovered this deodorant, I was thrilled with how effective it was for managing sweat, BO, and not causing any irritation. However, it became temporarily out of stock for a good while due to needing to find a new supplier for one of their ingredients, and ever since it’s been available again, I swear I am not as dry nor as protected from odor. Very bummed that this formula doesn’t seem to be as effective for my needs.

FINALLY A DEODORANT THAT WORKS (NO B.O) AND HAS ZERO SCENT. I HAVE A SNIFFER DOG NOSE AND I AM ALLERGIC TO ALL SMELLS AND SPECIALLY PERFUMES. THIS IS PERFECT. AND NO UNDER ARM RASH FROM IT AND IT DRIES QUICK. IT DOES HAVE ALUMINIUM IN, WHICH IS NOT HEALTHY AND CAN CONTRIBUTE TO HEAVY METAL TOXICITY AND BREAT CANCER…..BUT, I AM CAREFUL IN OTHER PRODUCTS, SO ALUMINIUM DOES NOT BUILD UP, HAVING IT IN LOTS OF PRODUCTS. I HAVE MCAS, LYME DISEASE (SO MALARIA FEVERS) AND I AM IN THE MENOPAUSE, SO A GOOD DEODORANT IS ESSENTIAL. THIS DOES THE JOB! THE ONLY ONE THAT DOES.
ONLY NEGATIVE IS THE NAME. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT SHOULD BE FOR “ANOTHER AREA ON THE BODY.” :/

I can’t use most deodorants. I’m so sensitive and break out in an itchy armpit rash. I used to use Vanicream’s gel formula. It’s a bit goopy and I started itching again (maybe they changed it???). I tried this one. Perfect! No irritation, goes on smoothly, no residue. Love it!

So happy i found this antiperspirant for sensitive skin. Had been using another product for years & the company changed the formula & therefore the product I’d been using was no longer available & the new product formulation was not for me. I had tried different options and all of them irritated my skin or the fragrance was awful. Had been recommended to use various vanicream for my skin allergies & successfully used other products by vanicream & decided to try this one. This is a winner for me!!! I find it completely non-irritating, it’s fragrance free & the feel when applied is completely non-sticky & has not left any residue on my clothes!! PLEASE, vanicream, never change this formula, it’s perfect as is!!

A few years ago, my husband developed an intense allergy to fragrance mix 2, and had to stop using traditional deodorants. He has tried many fragrance free options—all of them completely ineffective against his body odor—and had basically just resigned himself to being smelly. When he ran out of his current deodorant (Mando brand) I bought this Vanicream brand to try, but kept expectations low. We were both AMAZED at how well it worked!! My husband nearly cried because it was first time in YEARS he’s gone an entire day without smelling. I hope they never stop making this product—it’s truly life changing for people with allergies/sensitive skin!
