I really like these gummies! I’ve been using them for a little over a week and I haven’t noticed any ill-effects. They were delivered on a hot day and sat on my porch for a while, but none of the gummies melted at all. I was worried I’d end up with one giant gummy, but they did completely fine in the heat. The glass jar they come in is nice, but I’d rather it be a little cheaper and come in a plastic jar.
The flavor is good and totally unoffensive. I like these a lot and would order them again.

Dr. Mercola Brand is a trusted brand in our household that I’ve used for many years so I was excited to try out Dr. Mercola’s Astaxanthin Gummies. This is a well-thought-out product. It includes acerola cherry powder to give a natural vitamin C. It’s certified organic which is appealing to me. It’s not as sweet as other brands that taste very sweet like candy. This is pleasant enough without being overly sweet with a hint of areola cherry flavor. Easy to take, and has not upset my stomach or caused any digestive discomfort. Overall I’m pleased with this product.

Quality packaging, and gummies that are easy to eat. I am not a fan of cherry, but the taste is not overbearing at all. I am using this to see if they help with my vision in any way and I have not noticed any changes yet. That said, I will continue to use this product due to the quality and brand reputation.

Short Review: Astaxanthin is a new product to me. Evidently it’s a caratenoid (which is a phytochemical) which is responsible for the orange coloration of some foods (like salmon). The source of this particular supplement is Haematococcus pluvialis, “a unicellular freshwater microalga”. Mercola seems to be a decent low dose Astaxanthin gummy. Note that these were not well sealed, the seal lifted when I unscrewed the lid (I shouldn’t have tested them, but I did).
The Details
Transparency: Dr Joseph Mercola is the Developer of the Dr Mercola supplements line. He has a large web presence in his ‘Mercola Market’. They claim their products are Physician Formulated. He sits at the helm of a multimillion-dollar health business spanning books, products and online content. Per the web site, “All our products are formulated by Dr. Mercola and are thoroughly researched and developed with you in mind by our team of scientists, engineers and specialists.”
Accountability: They claim all of their products “are professionally tested for contamination, adulteration, potency and performance”, and that they “undergo micro testing and heavy metal analysis, and all products go through a sensory and quality analysis prior to release”. Mercola does not claim 3rd party lab testing, although they do claim that their products “are tested at multiple stages during production and again after production for stability or failure analysis”. They claim to follow Good Manufacturing Practices, but do not claim to be GMP certified (which is my Gold standard for Accountability).
Quality: These gummies are apparently slightly sweet due to IsoMaltoOligosaccharide (IMO), which is said to be a mixture of short-chain carbohydrates which has a digestion-resistant property (Wikipedia). It is said that IMO is tooth friendly. These Gummies are just slightly sweet and are reminiscent of cherry (they contain cherry) and with a slightly fishy scent and aftertaste (makes sense, it’s algae derived).
While this gummy product wasn’t checked by Consumerlabs, they approved Mercola’s Astaxanthin *capsules* in 2023. They did note that other approved supplements had up to 12 mg Astaxanthin per capsule, while Mercola’s had 4 mg (as do these gummies), making them more costly per mg of Astaxanthin than some others.
As always, check with your health care provider before adding a new supplement, especially those of us that are a bit “more mature.” But this seems to be a nice quality product from a well known brand, although I wish they were Good Manufacturing Practices certified and third party lab tested (they may be, I just can’t find that info).

I only took 1/2 of the gummie supplement because I wasn’t sure how this would affect me, and I’m glad I did ! My body is VERY sensitive, but after only eating 1/2 of the gummie it gave me an upset stomach later in the day. Now I know I can’t take this at all ! This really bugs me because I just wasted my money on this and I can’t use it at all ! Ugh !!

It doesn’t matter what health effects it would have because I can’t get past the nasty taste that does not go away until you eat something else. Won’t be getting these again. Can’t even get anyone else in my family to try them.

I trust the Dr. Mercola brand to make high quality, performance products. This supplement provides great antioxidant value and is made with clean ingredients. I trust that the company has formulate it to maximize absorbance. It does not taste great but not bad either. The jar was not well sealed. It is not easy to make a product organic and I appreciate the added assurance that it brings.
