As someone with oily but dehydrated skin who likes heavier creams for nighttime, I think this is a bit more than I would personally want to be feeling on my skin. I like the texture of the little capsules as they burst, but after that, the cream does feel much thicker than I usually like, even though it has a bit of a gel feel to it. It takes a good amount of time to sink into the skin, which is not ideal because I want to be in bed within 20 seconds of finishing my skin care routine after a long day. I think this would work well for people with more dry skin but the time it takes to absorb will probably still be fairly lengthy. I’ve taken off a star each for the fragrance, which I prefer to avoid in face products, as well as the long absorption time, but if those are things that do not bother you, I think this is worth a try.

I love this gel cream and am not surprised that it’s made in Korea because it’s unusual and fantastic. It is mostly transparent with gelatinous beads that spread easily on the skin, so I expected it to be watery and lightweight. However, this is a medium-weight moisturizer that leaves some oiliness and shine behind and feels incredibly hydrating and moisturizing at night. I woke up to my skin feeling unusually soft and moisturized. I usually don’t like any fragrance in my skincare products because I have sensitive skin, but I have to admit that I love the scent of this product. Thankfully, even though it lingers, it did not cause me to have any skin reactions or headaches. The unisex scent makes me think of the ocean and I kept taking deep breaths because I love the smell so much. I included a photo of the ingredient list so that potential buyers can evaluate the ingredients themselves.

This is a hybrid gel/cream from Korea; it’s enhanced with different hydrating ingredients including glycols and collagen, among others. The gel-cream itself is sort of a translucent, milky color, not quite clear, with suspended micro-particles described rather mysteriously in the product description as “glow capsules.” Koreans, perhaps more than any others, are somewhat fixated on the idea of “glowing” skin which they attest is a sign of superior health and beauty. To some extent this idea is universal, but with Koreans, it seems to border on an obsession and this is reflected in many of their skincare products.
This one is quite different from most creams sold here in the West. The gelatinous nature of this “cream” is rather unique in my experience. It does not absorb instantly and needs some time to fully do so. As someone with oily skin I will get use for this cream primarily as a nighttime moisturizer. It does add a bit of surface shine while it is slowly absorbing, and I try to minimize that effect as much as possible during the day (it’s an ongoing battle, believe me). But at night I know that even my oily skin needs nighttime moisture.
The gel-cream is perfume scented. I am “on the fence” as to whether I like this particular scent. I can’t quite place what it’s similar to but I know I’ve encountered this scent in East Asian skincare before. I can live with it, but I would prefer if it wasn’t there.
There’s also a bit of stickiness to this as it penetrates into your skin layers – it calms down eventually as the product works its way down deep into your skin surface. This could be due to the presence of sugar glycols; but I am no chemist so I can’t claim this with total authority. However, this is another reason I’m going to set this gel-cream aside for exclusively nighttime use.
Overall, I’m mostly pleased with Medicube Age-R. Four stars seems like a fair rating for this unique and somewhat different “cream.”

4.5 stars. Has what would be best described as a tapioca-like consistency. I’ve never tried anything quite like this before and for that reason, it may not be for everyone.
What the manufacturer describes as “glow capsules” – the little orbs that contain the glutathione take some getting used to. For the first several applications, I wasn’t sure how much to apply. If anything, I may have applied to much moisturizer. Maybe because of this, absorption seems to take a little longer.
But once it’s applied, it is an effective moisturizer that I would use again.
