I make purchases on Amazon quite often and have recently started writing reviews on some of the products I’ve bought. There have been countless times when others reviews have helped me to make a good buying choice or to not make a bad one rather. So here’s how I feel about this particular product. Let me start by saying that I first purchased this product last April, almost a year ago. I had bought my dress to wear at a friends wedding when a few days before, I used my sisters moisturizer. If I recall correctly, it was a St. Ives moisturizer. I do have sensitive skin when it comes to putting anything on my skin, especially my face. Make ups or moisturizers can easily irritate and cause burning or redness to my skin. I thought I wouldn’t have any problems with the St. Ives moisturizer considering I have used their apricot scrub before with no problems. Unfortunately, I must have been allergic or extremely sensitive to one or more of the ingredients because my face burned, bad. It looked like a horrible sunburn, then over the next few days all my skin on my face was slowly peeling off and it just looked and felt awful. I missed my friends wedding because my skin was peeling so bad and still irritated as well. I was afraid at that point to go back to my old moisturizer which had caused slight burning in the past but no skin irritation. Regardless, I wanted something new and completely organic. After reading many reviews on many different face moisturizing products, I decided on this Christina Moss product. After all, I had another friends wedding to attend in May and did not want to end up in the same situation and hoped for my face to be fully healed by then. My skin was mostly healed by the time I received this product, though still dry and peeling. Let me tell you, it felt amazing on my face. No burning or irritation of any kind. It helped moisturize my skin and seemed to speed up the healing process. I made it to my other friends wedding in May and my skin looked and felt great by then. I still use this and have continued to use it since then. If I find a cheaper product that is also completely organic and just as good, then I may switch. Otherwise I will stick with this product. It sucks to have to buy more expensive products because of my skin problems, but is well worth it to know that it’s good for my skin. I don’t care for the taste of licorice but I don’t mind the licorice smell of the moisterizer, which is caused by the anise seed oil. Some others may be bothered by the smell but it is an organic way of preserving the moisturizer and the smell does not last long after applied. When I purchased my first container I took the seal out and by the time I was down to my last bit it seeemed as though it possibly had thickened. I’m only assuming this because my makeup didn’t apply as smoothly when using the last bit. For all my other purchases of this product I left the seal on and it must make it fresher because my makeup now goes on smoothly after application all the way up until I run out. It lasts me about 2 months and I usually only apply once a day but sometimes twice a day. I don’t think that all good products are for everyone but the only way I wouldn’t recommend this product is if you have known allergies to any of the ingredients. Or if you are applying any medications to your face would suggest to ask your doctor first before using anything else. I pay full price for this product every two months or so and this is my honest opinion.

    UPDATE:
I eventually went to a dermatologist and got a prescription which healed my acne. Since then I have tried other moisturizers and BB creams because I still do not love the smell of this stuff. But after using other products for a few months I stumbled across my old tub of this and used it again one night. It felt so wonderful and my skin looked so plump and smooth and hydrated the next morning. I still haven’t found a moisturizer that my skin loves as much as this stuff. And if I use this with E.l.f. Acne Fighting Foundation Ivory, 1.21 Fluid Ounce it looks like I’m not wearing makeup at all and just have perfectly smooth clear skin. I cannot recommend this moisturizer enough.

    ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I have been battling an awful attack of adult acne. I looked like my face had been drug across gravel. It was so red and swollen it almost looked like an open wound. I’ve been using benzoyl peroxide which has been helping A LOT. However it makes me look like a reptile shedding its skin. Given the choice between looking like a mummy from the crypt or having swollen red painful clusters of cysts I’d choose the mummy. But I didn’t want to just give up and accept my flaky fate. My regular moisturizer wasn’t doing much to help with the dryness. I tried a few others but some were super heavy and oily, others did nothing, some moisturized but aggravated the acne. This has been the best I’ve found so far!

While the lotion is nice and light it does leave a slightly oily sheen on my face which isn’t optimal. But if I use a setting powder on top of my makeup it helps soak up the excess oil (although later in the day I start to look oily again). I also found that if I apply this first then the benzoyl peroxide cream it isn’t quite as drying, but still fights the acne. I know everyone says to do the benzoyl peroxide cream first, but after months of doing it that way then months of doing it my way, I think putting the moisturizer on first is not only fine but preferable for my skin.

This smells like licorice or anise. At first I hated that but now I’m used to it… and even kind of like it now. The packaging made me think it would smell like lavender. Just a head’s up, it doesn’t! And while I’m OK with the smell…. I’d still prefer a different scent. The scent does wear away pretty quickly. As soon as I’m done getting ready in the morning the scent has already worn off. Also, scent isn’t as important as the healing properties.

So the pros are that it really helps moisturize my poor acne-laden skin and is nice and light and feels really good and is quite healing. The downsides are the slightly oily sheen left after massaging it in, and the smell isn’t ideal. Overall, the pros DEFINITELY outweigh the cons. I can deal with an oily look and temporary scent to get the benefits of having a moisturized healed face.
