I’ve been making soaps for a while and want to move into making creams and lotions. The Myoc brand is one I trust so I ordered the MYOC Phenoxyethanol Liquid 240 M – Pack of 2 to experiment with. I like that it is a transparent liquid and that it has no additives, is free of paraben, and is cosmetic grade.

I use phenoxyethanol for my homemade hair butter and hair creams. It is a great preservative for my products so that they do not go rancid. It extends the shelf life. It has been very effective in my hair butters.

This stuff is a fantastic preservative for lotions and creams. I’ve been using it for years and it keeps my stuff shelf stable and mold/bacteria free. Preservatives are a must for any oil/water emulsions that you don’t intend to keep in the fridge and throw away after a week or two. Anyone who is afraid of chemical-sounding names should refocus their fear towards the potential of rubbing moldy and bacteria-laden cosmetics all over their face and body. It’s a lot worse than a little bit of preservative.
There are several options available for preservatives and I have used many of them, but this is one of my favorites and a regular go-to for my favorite lotion recipes. I highly recommend trying it if you haven’t already.
