I bought this product in the middle of May. I take 2 caps in the morning and middle of the day. I don’t take in the evening due to feeling in may interfere with sleep. Friends my age complain of low energy or weakness, but I don’t have those issues. I have studied herbs quite a bit and Dr. Oz has talked about astragalus and various others from time to time. Usually when he covers something, I’ll look it up and read the provided information. This is one of the herbs that are suppose to benefit the whole body and enhance the immune system. I have been taking immune enhancers for many years and don’t get the flu or other viruses that seem to go around all the time. I don’t believe in the flu shot and never take it. And I can’t remember the last time I’ve had it-just know I was much, much younger the last time I did get it. I’m 58 now and I feel as we age, we should do all we can to help ourselves stay healthy and feeling well. I stay away from doctors and I don’t take any meds. I feel the more meds you take, the sicker you become. Each has the potential to give you over 70 ailments and then the doc just gives you more meds for those issues. I call it the Snowball Effect. I know of some elderly people who drank, smoked, and lived long and healthy lives. But, then again, they didn’t have all the processed and GM foods, hormones and antibiotics in their meats and poultry, and chemicals in their food supply. This is the root of cancer and many illnesses in our time.

This is truly the most amazing, and best kept secret on planet earth. Be sure to read independent reviews, or just type in “What are the benefits of Astragalus Root?” into your search engine. You will be absolutely amazed at what it does for you. I bought it because of a fatty tumor which was about 2 1/2″ x 1″ below the surface of my skin on my abdomen. I have been taking this for about 4 weeks and it has shrunk to about half the size. I also noticed that the weird little purple veins are almost gone in my feet. I can snap my fingers, which I could not do because of minor arthritis. I take this with Now Brand Hyaluronic Acid (capsules), and it is an amazing “feel-great” combination.

2 days after taking this I started to get a heart pain (angina). I took my blood pressure after 3 days of this extreme discomfort and it was 190/170, that is dangerously high for anyone not only having it so high but also since the systolic and diastolic are so close together. I am 29 and in decent shape so I know its not my diet, age, any medications as I am not taking anything. I stopped taking it and within a day my pain was gone and my blood pressure was back down to 130/90. I would not recommend this product to anyone and I would talk to a physician before taking these if you do decided.

I just started taking this last month. It feels similar to other anti-inflammatories, so I know it’s doing something at least. No problems taking it daily, so I plan on continuing it.
Unless I missed it after an hour of googling, this product NOW Foods Astragalus, 100 Capsules / 500mg (Pack of 4) is dried powdered astragalus root which includes no guarantee on the minimum amount of astragalosides (triterpenoids) or polysaccharides. The more expensive alternative NOW Foods product “Astragalus Extract” contains a minimum 70% polysaccharides (but still no stated minimum astragalosides) and another product by Nature’s Way “Astragalus Standardized” contains a minimum 0.5% astragalosides. If anyone else finds information contrary to that, I’d really appreciate a comment.
Therefore, I’m assuming that means that this product has only trace amounts polysaccharides and astragalosides, i.e. less than both 70% polysaccharides and 0.5% astragalosides, otherwise they would have stated it. It’s probably illegal for them to tell you their product contains something of which there is so little of, I don’t know. But, trace amounts are definitely better than nothing.
The ingredient list found on the NOW Food’s website for the same product has this listed as the main ingredient: Astragalus Root (A. membranaceus) 1.0g (or 1,000mg). And that’s 1,000mg per serving, not per capsule.

The active constituents of the roots (Radix Astragali) include polysaccharides, triterpenoids (astragalosides) as well as isoflavones (including kumatakenin, calycosin and formononetin) along with their glycosides and malonates.”
