A source of fiber

I finally found this fiber. Its organic and it is course ground so it is highly effective. Most companies are changing their products and grinding the psyllium to a fine fluffy powder. The fluffy powder looses MOST of the mucilage in the refining process. I have tested 4 different brands in a glass of water. It is clearly evident how much mucilage content is in the fiber. This product is superior. I really hope that the NOW company does not change the way they are making it. It is high is mucilage and it works so gently and fast. I am purchasing additional jars today because I am afraid that the product will be changed. I want this course grind. I have looked everywhere online and in stores to find it. I have had severe digestive problems my whole life and this fiber is superior to all other brands I have purchased. It mixes easily in water, juice or a smoothie. I love it in my oatmeal also. It doesn’t have much of a taste when taken in water. That’s how I take it most of the time. I take a tablespoon in the morning and a tablespoon at night and my digestion couldn’t be better. I love this product. ITs orgainc which is another plus in my book. My body is highly suceptible to chemicals. I get attacks on the bladder (interstital cystitis) if I eat foods that contain perservatives or chemicals. Thanks to the NOW corporation for developing this product.

I add this to my smoothies, yogurt, cereal, etc. and it keeps me full and regular. I have re-ordered many times.

Just what I was looking for. This is whole seed husk which is the best form of fiber you can take, better than Metamucil as that can get caught in the pockets of your gut lining easier than this.
I have been taking this for many years. I also add it to my smoothies, or sprinkle on a salad with my ground Flaxseed. Everyone needs this, including those of you that deal with constipation; take this and drink plenty of water daily and you should not be constipated. I used to work at a Health Store etc. I always had happy customers when I suggested this.

I bought this after trying to take psyllium pills. I thought the pills would be easier. I was wrong. You need to swallow a slew of pills to get the same amount of fiber as in one or two teaspoons of the whole husk. I was worried about the taste. I was worried about what to mix it in. Turns out that smoothies — any kind — are one of the easiest ways to get this down. I can’t even taste it. Also works great in rice or sprinkled in stew, oatmeal, soup, baked in cookie bars or bread or brownies — you get the idea. Keep trying it on stuff until you find something that it works on. Don’t give up on the first try.
You can’t really tell that it is there. I have even taken a spoonful in plain, pulp free orange juice. It kind of feels like the pulp you would normally get. It is fairly tasteless. It does not add much, if any, taste to most things. It just blends in. When I can taste it, the flavor is mild and somewhat like bread or wheat. It is not an offensive or strong taste.
Don’t be afraid 🙂 Try it. It is easy to take. Sprinkle on some food and you will be amazed at how much it just blends in.
Ships fast. Good price.

Edit/update: I decided to give this fiber a second try because the capsules have such a small amount of fiber, you’d have to take 4-20 capsules a day. I ended up taking this powder and mixing it (in a 1:1 ratio) with water, then stirring in whatever seeds I wanted. Then I’d press it flat onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes at 300 degrees F. It forms a kind of cross between a cracker and flatbread, and is a lot easier to swallow than when you add it to water. Just make sure you’re drinking plenty of water to account for all the extra fiber you’re getting. 🙂
This way, you can get a large amount of fiber more easily (I take two tablespoons daily and then supplement with optifiber in my tea/coffee), save money compared to buying the capsules (and save energy, as it’s annoying to have to take so many pills every day), plus you get the added benefit of cholesterol lowering fiber ( which you don’t get with wheat dextrin fiber). It took a little while to find what worked, but if you’re having problems swallowing it in water like me, give this a try!
Original review: I normally use Kirkland fiber powder and love that I can mix it into my tea or coffee without it changing the flavor or thickening it. Plus, the price is great and you can get it on Amazon. However, I wanted to try a different type of soluble fiber so that I could also benefit from the cholesterol reducing effects of psyllium husks. This stuff does not dissolve in liquid, though. If you drink a glass of water (trying to drink quickly before it congeals), it’s like drinking water with a bunch of dirt floating in it. I don’t gag easily but I could only make myself drink one glass. Maybe baking it into breads? Eating it with applesauce or yogurt? Again, you’d have to eat it quickly to avoid the congealing effects. I tried it in oatmeal and have now sworn off oatmeal it was so gross (haha). Also tried I in a smoothie and the smoothie got to be so rubbery textured I hated it by the end. So in my opinion, I dont know if this stuff is worth it. I can’t find a way to consume it daily in a reliable, palatable way.
