This product seems genuine from the taste, it smells like some old pills I had that melted. Unfortunately I am having a hard time using it because the taste is hard to swallow. I tried mixing it in my coffee, which didn’t cover up the taste and basically just ruined the taste of what had been a nice cup of coffee. I have yet to find a good way of getting this down. Maybe just a small bit in a smoothie would work, though I hate to t=ruin a good smoothie like it did to my coffee. I will continue to experiment and update if I find a good way to ingest this.

Acetyl-L-carnitine helps with mitochondrial function. There is some research that suggests supplementing Acetyl-L-carnitine (also abbreviated to ALCAR, such as in the rest of this review) can assist with healthy aging.

Some studies also showed it to be helpful with assisting in weight loss, but there is currently no concrete link or dosage recommendation for this use.

This is an easy way to get 1g in a smoothie or protein shake, something where you’re adding other strongly flavoured elements. I don’t know that I’d put it in just coffee as it might overrule the coffee flavour on its own.

I’ve been using ALCAR for a while and decided to try this powder version. Gotta say, I’m pretty happy with it overall. It mixes easily into my morning smoothie without any weird taste, which is a big plus. The little scoop it comes with is handy too – no need to mess around with a scale.

I’ve noticed I feel a bit sharper mentally, especially during those mid-afternoon slumps when I used to get foggy. Seems to give me a bit more pep without making me jittery or anything.

Only downside is it’s not the cheapest option out there. But hey, you get what you pay for, right? And a little goes a long way, so the jar lasts quite a while.

If you’re in the market for an ALCAR powder, this one’s worth checking out.

This product comes from Carlson, a well known company, and is produced in an FDA regulated facility. I have recently started working out on a more regular basis with bicycling, weight lifting and running. On a daily basis I drink a blend of water, protein isolate, and collagen peptides, at times adding various fruit. I have now added this to the mix to aid my physical and cognitive health. I feel these ingredients are contributing to my feeling of improved physical and mental well being.

This is a review for Carlson – Acetyl L-Carnitine Powder, Free-Form Amino Acid.
If you are confused about Carnitine here is a very simple clarification. Carnitine comes in L’Carnitine and Acetyl L-Carnitine. L’Carnitine addresses weight management and energy. Acetyl L-Carnitine crosses the blood brain barrier and supports cognitive health. I chose Acetyl L-Carnitine to support healthy aging of the brain. I can’t say it worked for me, not for a problem with the nutrient but it was more about me. I was having a little energy problem with the use of the Acetyl L’Carnitine. I checked with a nutritionist and did a little checking online. It seems that use of this nutrient is not recommended for someone with my disorder. Period! I really wish supplement companies would remind you to check with your health professional. I should have known better to check as well since I have been using supplements for many years. Only now have I become interested in supplements to support cognitive health and was excited to try Carlson’s Acetyl L’Carnitine since I heard and read the great benefits of Acetyl L’Carnitne and I knew Carlson’s to be an excellent trustworthy brand . So my advice to anyone who is interested in using supplements and herbs is to always check first with a health professional that is very educated in herbs and vitamins etc. before going down that path.
Otherwise.. I highly recommend this Acetyl L’Carnitine by Carlsons. They are a very trusted and stable family owned and female led brand. They are based in the Usa and they state they are FDA regulated and their products are 3rd party tested. I don’t see any reference to Gmo however.

I’ve been using acetyl-carnitine for years because I think it relaxes me and gives me a sense of well-being. What that means for me biochemically I’m not sure, but I’ve read that since it helps metabolize fats, that could be helping the brain utilize fats (and the brain is a fatty tissue).

I’ve also tasted many of them, including those that come in capsules…it’s generally an intensely sour flavor – that’s the acetic acid (and this is *really* bad for the enamel on your teeth, btw). The acetic acid is said to make compounds more absorbable by the body., and I think that’s true from the various specialized acetyl aminos I’ve tried. Acetic acid is also why people ingest apple cider vinegar for blood sugar reasons (that’s a other story).

Back to flavor.. this particular powder , which I did taste by itself, has a few flavors besides the acid – there’s a a sweet and savory initial flavor which I don’t understand and havent tasted in other products. It’s just for a few seconds d could be some effect of the compound on taste buds.

Does it work? I’m not sure, to be honest. I’ve been taking acetyl-carnitine so long that it’s hard to say. I usually take it at bedtime, and with phospholipids. I do have confidence in the Carlson brand, I’ve bought from them over the years and they seem like a credible company. Vitamin shoppe sells a few products of theirs, but not many.

I like the fact that this product is tested by an FDA-registered laboratory for potency and quality. Most supplements sold on Amazon are not. As to the Acetyl L-Carnitine for health it seems to be one of those supplements that has pluses and minuses in which the user must do their own individual research and weight that against their own physical and unique metabolism circumstances. For me, I find the benefit side of the equation is good for me with few to any of the risks side. There are a few supplements I put into my morning coffee and now this got added to my list to take.
