My husband has been on a mission to get me to use protein powder for years. He’s tried making me shakes and mixing protein powder in with pancakes and I just could never tolerate it…the chalky, bland, fake flavor disgusted me. That is until he found this stuff. You see, I am 4 months post-partum and recently signed up for a fitness challenge that requires a certain amount of protein intake per day. My husband convinced me one shake a day would help, so I gave it a try. We picked this particular brand because our daughter has a terrible reaction when I eat dairy or soy and it gets into my breastmilk. This is free of both 🙂
The first shake I made I used 8 oz of almond milk and a scoop of the chocolate protein. It was SO chocolate and pretty grainy. I dumped it in the blender and added 6 ice cubes and a cup of strawberries and holy cow! It is the best protein shake I’ve ever had. I could only taste the fruit a little and the chocolate flavor was perfect! I tried it again, but with a banana instead of strawberries and it was so creamy! I literally look forward to having a protein shake now.
I also want to add that people rave about Shakeology and going off taste alone, I think this protein powder is so much better! I know that stuff is packed with other super foods, but this stuff has more protein per serving and is $115 cheaper per month. I will definitely be buying this again!!!

Ok, so you’re reading the product reviews trying to figure out if this powder is disgusting or delicious. You are conflicted. Some people say that it is LITERALLY UNDRINKABLE, while others say that it’s THE BEST PROTEIN POWDER THEY’VE EVER TASTED.
I came into this purchase with very, very low expectations. First of all, I hate mocha flavored things. Second of all, I HATED the Vega sport performance protein (chocolate flavor), because I could taste the beany-ness of it, and the texture and smell were revolting (also, it started to separate within 2 minutes of mixing. Gross). I bought this powder because Whey protein powders really really upset my stomach, even though some of them are delicious.
All of that aside, here’s what I have to say:
This protein powder is fing delicious. Holy mackeral. I was so surprised that I liked it, I was honestly expecting that I’d have to add bananas and peanut butter and soy milk to make it palletable. I tried it with plain, cold water in a shaker bottle. It’s awesome! The mocha flavor is very very subtle, and the chocolate flavor is really rich and creamy. It’s pretty sweet, but no sweeter than a milkshake, so if you’re one of those reviewers complaining about how “unbearably sweet it is”, you need to understand that they’re TRYING to make this taste like a yummy, creamy milkshake. And even when mixed with plain water, IT DOES!!!!!!
The texture is great. It has a little grain to it, but it absolutely is not offensive or overpowering.
I’m going to try mixing it with some soy milk tomorrow and see how that tastes. If you’re worried about which protein powder to buy, BUY THIS ONE!! Seriously. It’s cheap, delicious, and the macros stack up great against Whey protein powders.
Do not be afraid! Take the plunge!! You’ll love it (and if not, mix in a bunch of other crap until it tastes good, and buy something else next time). IN the end, your taste buds are unique, so you have to try it to know if you’ll like it or not.

Decided to try this brand because the price, ingredients and macros were great. I love caramel flavored everything, so I was excited to try this. It did not disappoint! I use half a scoop in my overnight oats and it’s delicious! It does kind of clump up when mixing, so if you are making a shake, a blender would probably be best. It works fine in my oats though. Will definitely repurchase and try the other flavors!

This stuff does the job and doesn’t cause me to fart poison like whey powders do. Let’s face it, there are more whey options and they taste and mix better, but this stuff has it’s benefits. It doesn’t mess with my stomach, which is the main reason I stopped whey. I am not lactose intolerant, but whey makes me feel slightly ill and the fumes from my butt are deadly and unstoppable. This stuff has all the protein and aminos I need, even if it is light on some of the aminos, but that’s the case with almost all the plant protein powders. It mixes fine with liquid as long as you use at least 1.5 t o 2 cups. 1 cup of liquid is not enough – it will be grainy and thick (though I”ve drunk it this way and it’s fine for me). 2 cups of liquid and you have a nice smooth experience. I haven’t tried mixing it with anything outside of liquid smoothies and I don’t think i will. It tastes fine, though I might go with vanilla next time as I like the chocolate but not so much the mocha part. Also, it doesn’t have that foul whey odor to it. I would generally prefer fewer calories, but it’s not that big a deal. 130 cal is still manageable.
