I tried this after going through the non-flavored one. These are more convenient to carry because they only fill 8 ounces of water, not a liter. I guess it does wind up being more expensive but the flavor and the convenience are worth it for me right now. I’m so much more likely to add one of these to a glass of water than I was to find a liter or use half a packet at a time. The flavor is more palatable too. In the future, I might get some powdered lemon flavoring to add to the traditional ones and save some money.
Anyway, these are great. They hydrate right away. You can feel the impact. They have everything you need, and nothing you don’t. No more dosing sugar just to get your electrolytes. I think they’re reasonably priced compared to full bottles of liquid, and they would be easy to bring and carry-on luggage for a flight. There are so many uses and I’ve added them to my first aid kit.

Used this today on a summer hike climbing 2,500 feet and back (so fairly strenuous). I’d say I feel better after this hike than I usually would hiking drinking the usual tap water. This is hardly conclusive, but I feel happy continuing to use Oral Rehdydration Salts whilst hiking instead of water.
Two things though:
1. These packets are ridiculously expensive compared to the unflavored packets. This is not obvious because the regular packets provide salts for 1 liter. These are for only 8 fl oz which is close to a quarter of a liter. So you need to use *4* packets to make the same amount of solution.
This is not made at all clear on the selling pages for this product – it is there if you look extremely hard, but not upfront – this is borderline deceptive in my opinion.
2. The taste is not great, just ok – I quite like it, my wife thought it tasted of soap. In the end the underlying solution is essentially a salt and sugar mixture and just can’t taste great and still do the job it needs to do. Any more sugar to make it taste better would affect it absorption by the gut.
So I marked it up for taste, then down for expense and (borderline) deceptive selling.

I’ve used the regular the trioral and it’s not bad. But this lemon one is pretty bad tasting and I’m going back to the regular non-flavor one. Definitely keeps me hydrated without needing to pee a lot

The essential – made slightly tastier. This is not gatorade…it’s not sweet-sweet. It’s mildly sweetened and mildly flavored. Note that the flavored ones are a bit of a gimmick…they’re only good for ~8 ounces rather than 1 liter for the non-flavored. Good for kids, but I don’t mind the non-flavored stuff at all.
This is where sports nutrition should be at…low sugar, low carb. This stuff is a lifesaver (literally, in certain cases). It has a passable, slightly salty taste with no sweetness at all – it’s all about getting what your nerves and muscles need to be healthy and in top shape. To that end, it works perfectly for a variety of purposes from cycling/running to treating nausea/vomiting/diarrhea. I literally don’t leave the house without a few packets in my bag.
Personal testament: While in South Africa, I went to a brai in Kreiger with some friends and the next day went down with the worst case of food poisoning in my life. I’m talking eye-watering, nearly black-out nauseous, full stupor, looks like a movie where a character has been poisoned by assassin unknown, thought I might actually die in South Africa stuff… I combined Trioral with DiaResQ and eventually some protein powder and was able to skip the hospital visit or worse.
This stuff works.

Not sure how well it works yet, but it tastes like vitamin powder in water.

When traveling, I’ve gotten some kind of food poisoning or other infection several times. The resulting vomitting and diarrhea can cause dehydration and more severe problems. So, I bring these little packets and use them for electrolyte replacement if I get sick. The taste isn’t great, but it works. This formula is the one approved by WHO.

I keep trioral in constant stock in my house. The flavor is really mild, and the fact that you can get the equivalent hydration as you would froma liter of IV fluids with just an 8oz. serving is a lifesaver for when I am both dehydrated and nauseated, which happens all too frequently in my world. My husband finds that using it to take his daily fiber keeps things moving along really smoothly, so we both swear by it.
