I began having incapacitating night time leg “cramps” several years ago- no regular interval for the cramping and unable to identify the trigger. Not just wimpy charlie-horse cramps, but sustained muscle contractions that can last 5 minutes or more and often cause my foot to rotate internally at the ankle almost 45°. If I don’t support my foot, it feels like my ankle will dislocate. I’ve always thought these cramps seem neurological, like a localized sustained seizure. Before and after an episode I often have muscle fasciculations (tiny contractions/twinges that are visible in the effected muscles and look like fireworks are going on inside my legs.) I knew that If I tried to describe an episode to a doctor I’d sound like a Nut-job, so my husband videoed an event and I brought it to appts with my regular doctor and then a neurologist. “Wow, that’s interesting” were their responses which wasn’t what I was hoping for, and their work-ups didn’t reveal any abnormalities that would cause the cramping so they had no treatments to offer.
I tried the usual remedies of increasing water intake and electrolyte supplements, but no change. The only thing I’ve found to have any impact is Vicodin which takes about an hour to be effective so it doesn’t stop an event that’s already in progress but it usually prevents me from having more cramps later in the night. Without Vicodin I honestly think I’d have psychological issues because the pain is so severe- about equal to pain I had with a kidney stone. The cramping is usually only a few times per month but relying on Vicodin is still a slippery slope and I try to keep it to a minimum.
Thankfully the cramping events are intermittent and so far have only occurred at night. I can go several weeks without an attack and then, “boom”- every night for a week. No rhyme or reason. I’ve been surfing for 40+ years and recently started the more extreme sport of kiteboarding. One of my biggest fears is if I ever have a cramping episode while in the ocean I may not be able to keep my head above water while I support my cramping extremity. At least I could lay on my board if I was surfing and wouldn’t be too far from shore. But kiteboarding, you’re often much farther out in the ocean, and harnessed directly to a huge powerful “sail” (kite) in strong wind. Even the impact/flotation vest I wear wouldn’t help keep my head above water if I cramped and had to support my foot while being dragged by the kite. Scary prospects and know my husband watches me like a hawk when I’m in the water.
I refuse to let the cramping impact my quality of life so I continue to look for answers. I read about HotShot for exercise induced cramps and although I wasn’t optimistic, I decided to try it. Kept a bottle on the nightstand and drank it about 20 seconds after the onset of my next cramping episode. Within 1-2 minutes my foot and ankle relaxed and returned to it’s normal alignment and the contraction released/relaxed. There was no way to be positive that HotShot had stopped the cramping until I’d tried it 3 more times during similar episodes and had the same results- within 1-2 minutes after drinking HotShot the contraction releases.
One night I did have a recurrence of cramping a couple of hours after the first bottle of HotShot so after HotShot stops an acute attack I’ll often follow up with a Vicodin to prevent a recurrence. But now that I’m confident Hotshot will stop an acute cramping episode, I’m not as paranoid of every little leg twinge I have before bed and I don’t feel the need “pre-treat” with Vicodin so I’m not taking them as often.
If I have a “feeling” I’m going to have cramps in the night, I’ll drink a bottle before bed but I can’t say for sure that HotShot has prevented any cramping episodes . Just to be safe, I also take Hotshot to the beach and if I have the slightest twinge in my legs before kiteboarding I’ll drink a bottle before I go in the ocean. But I can say with absolute certainty that HotShot will stop the muscle cramping if I drink it during one of my acute episodes.

I had a 26.2 mi, single track, mountain race in MN and decided to give it a try. I usually contend with leg cramps on the inside of my thighs are about the 3 hr mark. They are debilitating and painful. I can usually sense when they’re coming on. I started using the product dayes before, just before the start, 2x more times during and when I felt the onset. Stuff really worked!
My only complaint is the price, but hey…Worked for me.

I have tried various cramp reduction products and this is the only one that works quickly and reliably for me. However, the plastic overwrap around the top it very tough and almost impossible to remove without a knife. Thus, on many occasions I have been hit with a cramp and have had to call/SHOUT for others to help me open the bottle…and the time it takes do do this while cramping seems like forever. So if you think you might cramp, you might want to pre-cut the security wrapper. PLEASE MAKE THESE EASIER TO OPEN!

I started experiencing horrible, debilitating muscle cramps all over my body several year ago. Not simply leg cramps but cramps in every muscle group including my fingers and toes. Some nights, I would wake up in absolute agony totally wracked in pain. I would drink several glasses of water and stand by the sink for an hour or so waiting for the cramps to subside.
To remedy this chronic problem, I first made sure I was hydrated at all times. This meant drinking water throughout the day. The cramps lessened but still struck once a week or so. I then began removing things from my diet that I thought might be contributing to the cramps: alcohol, coffee, simple carbohydrates (junk food). The cramps lessened but still occurred too often.
I began taking Potassium and Magnesium supplements and these provided a great deal of relief. My muscle cramp attacks happen infrequently now, maybe every other month and usually after I have become dehydrated, drink alcohol, physically over do it, and eat junk food.
The fear of having a serious cramping event has lead me to Hot Shot cramp relief drink. As soon as I feel a cramp start to develop, I immediately sip a shot of HOT SHOT and all cramping activity goes away in about 1 minute! If I have been doing extreme physical activity or know I am not eating right, I will sip a HOT SHOT as a preventative measure.
Today, I keep HOT SHOT on all floors of my house, I keep some in my car, and I keep some at work.
This product REALLY works. If it works in an extreme case such as myself then it will work for the athlete or person who occasionally suffers from cramps. This is not some holistic, new age, homeopathic herbal medicine. This really works. This is also not designed to replenish electrolytes in your muscles. This stuff works because it is an ION blocker that disrupts the cramping signal from your muscles from reaching your brain,.
A negative of this product is that it is expensive. But if given the alternative of standing by the sink in agony in the middle of the night for two hours, the cost is relative and worth it. Another drawback is that it tastes like hot sauce or like a strong fireball candy. I don’t mind the taste but I can see how some might find it objectionable.

Let me tell you: these are spicy and burn my mouth and esophagus going down (tasted like hot, spicy habenero juice with pepper) but when my debilitating cramps happen suddenly and I’m crippled with unrelenting pain, this is the ONLY thing that works. The seizing muscles relax almost instantly. It really is miraculous.
I get horrible leg cramps at night (inner thigh seizes up and it wraps up around my hip flexor down to my feet). I can barely breathe when they hit and they hurt so bad I cry in pain. I used to suffer for sometimes up to 20 min in a debilitating cramping state. When I found these I felt like I won the lottery. I keep them by my bedside because when the cramps happen, I can’t even move to get out of bed. Instantly the cramping stops. You must try them.
