    I have been taking C0Q10 for about 15 years. Tried this version. I like it.

    Comes at a more than reasonable price and while Jarrow COQ10 has not been tested for potency and purity by Consumer Labs, many of the other supplements Jarrow sells have been tested and passed with flying colors. So I trust them and will probably be using this indefinitely.

    As others have said though, the pills are large so if swallowing sizeable pills is a problem for you, look elsewhere.

    The softgels are the best for going down, digestion, and purity of the supplement. Dr. Weil recommends about 100mg daily of Co-Q-10 (as well as Dr. Oz). But Google it yourself for confirmation; don’t go just by my advice (or anyone else’s). Dr. Weil is a bit more conservative about necessary supplements versus Dr. Oz who is on TV and seems like an alarmist sometimes.

    I love Jarrow brand vitamins because they are a well respected manufacturer and deliver what they say they are going to. The only drawback is that these pills are fairly large. They are gel capsules, though, so this makes them a little easier to swallow. I heard about taking a Co-Q10 supplement for improved heart health, replenishment of CO-Q10 levels decreased by taking cholesterol lowering statins and that it may even help fight diabetes. It seems to be helping me, but everyone is different and you should check with your doctor before taking any supplements (some can interact with medicines you are already taking).

    You cannot go wrong with purchasing this product regardless of age. For those of you that have not read a lot of information on CoQ10 it has been suggested that people over 40 do NOT absorb regular CoQ10 well. So they should elect to take a component of CoQ10 instead called “Ubiquinol” which is more expensive. CoQ10 initially breaks down into “Ubiquinone” (vs Ubiquinol) which is harder to absorb as you grow older. This was 100% correct 6+ years ago. However, this is NO LONGER THE CASE!!!

    This product and others like it absorb slightly better than Ubiquinol and COSTS MUCH LESS!!! Here is why…

    “Ubiquinol” was introduced to the public around 2006. It was a major breakthrough at the time for a CoQ10 manufacturer. Unfortunately, good people have done a great job in researching “Ubiquinol” a few years ago and educating others on the substance. However, there are more recent studies and more current scientific breakthroughs regarding CoQ10.

    Science never sits still and competition breeds enhancements. “Ubiquinol” is the “reduced” component of CoQ10. CoQ10 is “reduced” to “Ubiquinol” and “Ubiquinone” in the blood stream. These are the two components that our bodies use. “Ubiquinol” apparently DOES absorb better (in our intestines) than regular “Ubiquinone” in people over 40. HOWEVER, when “Ubiquinone” is bound to a protein molecule it absorbs slightly better than “Ubiquinol”.

    The tests are simple. They give animals (lab rats) as well as humans Ubiquinol for a specific amount of time and measure the amount of CoQ10 in their blood. Then they wait for a month or two to allow the CoQ10 to dissipate and then give them equal dosages of “Ubiquinone” (CoQ10) that is bound to a protein for enhanced absorption over the same amount of time. Then they measure the level of CoQ10 in the blood again. The “Enhanced Absorption CoQ10” produced slightly higher CoQ10 values in the blood than the “Ubiquinol” did in the same group of people. Also, your body actually needs both “Ubiquinol” and “Ubiquinone” so, in the blood, it switches CoQ10 to whichever state it needs at whatever time it needs it.     I encourage all to please research this info at your leisure. If it makes sense please share the wealth. BTW, one study showed a small percentage of people actually felt fatigued while taking Ubiquinol during a study of enhanced Ubiquinone vs. Ubiquinol. If I recall correctly, the theory is this happened because Ubiquinone is the actual energy component that produces ATP (read below about ATP) whereas Ubiquinol is the antioxidant form of COQ10.

    Both the names ubiquinone and ubiquinol come from the word “ubiquitous,” meaning “everywhere,” because CoQ10 is found so widely in the body. So what exactly is the difference between these two forms?

    Think back to the two basic functions of CoQ10: energy production and antioxidant protection. Ubiquinone is the oxidized form of CoQ10 used to create energy. (We tend to think of “oxidized” as bad, but in this case it simply means that it is in the form needed to produce ATP.) Ubiquinol is the reduced form of CoQ10 used to provide antioxidant protection.

    The simple truth is that both forms are needed by the body, and CoQ10’s location in the body determines the form it takes. Inside the cells, where energy is produced, ubiquinone is in great demand. However, outside the cells, in the blood and cell membranes, ubininol works as an antioxidant.

    Importantly, ubiquinone and ubiquinol form a redox pair. This means each one can be easily converted to the other by the body.

    Given the fact that the body can switch the two substances back and forth to meet its own requirements, the argument that ubiquinol is the “biologically active” form of CoQ10 is not valid. Additionally, while claims have been made that adults over 40 have difficulty reducing ubiquinone to ubiquinol, a recent human study indicates otherwise.

    I’m not sure about me. I just started. I have no heart issues yet…I’m 82. My pup, however, suffers from CHF, at least he did. I make his food & add about 600 mg per 1 pound of raw 90/10 ground beef. L-Carnetine, as well. Doc says his 18 mo survival estimate is “no more”. Says his heart sounds good for a 13 year old… with help from other pharma meds.

    This is amazing. My doctor recommended this type of supplement to go with a medication I am taking. This really helps with body aches. If I forget to take one, I can definitely feel it the next day.

    Proof this supplement really does something: While kind of gross to admit, sometimes I don’t floss as often as I should and sometimes my gums bleed when I brush my teeth… However, as soon as I started taking Co-Q10, my gums completely stopped bleeding. If I miss a few days of the supplement, they start again. Maybe an over-share on my part, but I’m amazed to have such tangible evidence that, at least for periodontal health, this stuff is great, and it makes me put a lot more faith in the other health claims about this product.
