Hubs has been taking one spoonful of cod liver oil every day for several month for it’s health benefits. He’s tasted a lot of different brands and says that though cod liver oil is not an especially pleasant taste, this seems to be good quality and he likes it. This one has a slight taste of lemon.

This Omega 3 Liquid Fish Oil Supplement may be good for some people, especially those who know what to expect. I didn’t and I don’t like it.

To be fair, I will say this is a well made product made with a lot of care. It is by the far the highest quality cod liver oil I have ever tried and there are definitely some therapeutic benefits to this product. I like the fact they added the lemon essential oil as an antioxidant instead of cheap synthesized tocopherols. I like that it’s cold pressed in a good facility.

However, I will no longer be buying this product. The ocean is so polluted at this point that there are PCBs (a class of “forever chemicals”) in all fish, as well as POPs and PBDEs found well into the mcg per gram of fresh fish, even those that are low on the food chain in some of the most remote places in the world (ex: as shown in lab tests by studies like the one on PCB content in Patagonian wild salmon). Short-term this is not really an issue but my concern is every day in the long-term. These things bioaccumulate over time and don’t really get eliminated . Look at the PCBs in the Inuit population living off of seal meat in regions more remote than much of Alaska—their PCB levels are off the charts and they increase with age because the body does not get rid of them. This is why you have some of the doctors under the number one hospital on earth, the Mayo Clinic (Augusta Health), recommending even wild salmon no more than twice a month and in only small four ounce servings. They also recommend pregnant women and children don’t eat any seafood at all. Other groups of doctors like the ones under the Physicians for Social Responsibility and the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals are making these same recommendations too.

It’s a shame because the omega 3:6 ratio of seafood is unparalleled in any plant. Cod liver oil has a 21:1 omega 3 to 6 ratio. Compare that with the best ratio plant known to man, the oil of buglossoides avena, which is only a 4:1 ratio. If you went out on a limb and discounted the anti inflammatory GLA form of omega 6 unique to plants and only counted the inflammatory form of omega 6 (linoleic acid), buglossoides avena would have a 5:1 ratio. On top of the that, only about 5% of all the plant’s omega 3’s (ALA) even get converted into the needed forms used by the body, DHA and EPA.

I think eating fish like wild salmon and sardines a couple times a month may be worth it because the omega 3 benefits are so dramatic. However, I don’t feel comfortable using this fish oil even a couple times a month in the long term because cod are bottom feeders. PCBs sink and accumulate in bottom feeding species like cod. The liver itself also accumulates pollutants. For these reasons I will be optimizing my omega 3 ratio from more pure sources: plants and pasture raised eggs (the chickens convert the plant form of omega 3 into DHA and then concentrate that in the yolk, making it a very good source of DHA that is vastly more pure than all seafood). If the chickens don’t eat soy (which is a very rich oily source of omega 6) and they instead eat only corn, grains and things in the pasture, the omega 6 content is fairly low while the DHA content is high enough to be suitable for our body’s needs. Hoping that info helps someone out there. God bless you.

I liked that this was a liquid which made it easy to swallow. However, my kids could quickly tell it was in their drink & it left an oily residue on the top of the drink. The taste wasn’t good & it didn’t work like I had hoped.

I have been taking fish oil for many years and I really don’t mind any fishy taste, but this brand has a chemical taste to it that I can’t tolerate. Going back to my old brand.

    Made in the 🇺🇸 USA!

The flavor is clean, and bright and not too fishy. If you can eat a sardine you will love this.

When I take twice the recommended amount I feel much better though out that day.

Also In researching this product I saw a pristine facility full of bright shining stainless steel.

I think It’s the best of the best.

It definitely makes me feel good both mentally and physically better.

I think most other fish oils are close to being rancid but not this one in the least, its Supper fresh gourmet fish oil.

I know it’s tempting but (Don’t just drink this by the bottle), too much vitamin A can be toxic.

Consume in 30 days after opening, keep refrigerated because it’s real food.

Giving this to dogs is insulting, but you got it for free so yeah you gave it to the dogs. Figures

First off, I like that the cod used for this product are wild caught on a line and the product considers itself sustainable. It also claims to use extraction processes that preserve the nutrients. As for taste, Dutch Harbor does a nice job of giving this oil a light lemon flavor and a distinct lack of fish undertones. It mixes well into my green superfood morning drink. And the 5ml dose has a good amount of DHA and EPA. Keep in mind cod liver oil also delivers a full day supply of vitamin A, so you may want to factor it in your daily total and make sure you are not getting too much.

  8. EnKa

Good quality. Lemon essence makes it more palatable.
